For someone who can be a bit uptight about travel arrangements, this was great as far as hostels go. My boyfriend and I stayed here- they have choices for both single beds and double beds which was good for us. I am not a huge fan of rooms of 10-15 bunk beds but it actually wasn't too bad. It is... This is a popular hostel. When we arrived it was loud/banging with music and at 1 am, we just wanted to crash. Friendly welcome at reception. The 6 bed dorm had two young girls, 2 guys and us (a couple in their twenties). There a lot of single sex groups of youngsters in this hostel. If you are not comfortable... More

Such a great hostel! Short walking distance to the main attractions such as red light district and Centraal Station. Rooms with security card, the street isn't noisy, good breakfast and it has a bar with DJ (some nights) and 2€ a beer. Would stay there again!

I had a look through these reviews and felt I had to give the Pig a bit of praise. I have stayed at the Downtown twice now, and would definitely go again, without a doubt. As for the people moaning about it being so close to the Red Light District and the coffee shops - maybe you shouldn't have booked... More

The best hostel I ever been. I could not recommend another. This is the best from Amsterdam.

I'm a college student who stayed here with a friend for two nights. We're not smokers or partiers, we just came to actually see the city and wanted a cheap place to stay. First, I wish the hostel outright said that they were a party hostel. I knew they had a smoking room and a bar, but it seemed that... More

This place was the worst. I arrived a bit early and I had to leave my bag in the unsecured luggage room where anyone could have taken anything. When it was time for me to check in and go up to my room, the previous guest was still in my bed and had no intention of getting up even though... More

Best hostel hands down. Awesome atmosphere, great bar, chill smoke room. The rooms were nice, beds were clean. Bathrooms were well taken care of, and it was in an awesome location. Made the trip to Amsterdam that much better. Don't stay anywhere else!

i went here for my 21st birthday witha group of friends and it was amazing! Incredible location, amazing price, good hearty breakfast, wonderful staff. The rooms weren't particularly clean to be honest, but it didnt seem to bother us at the time! The bedrooms were warm, and the bed sheets were clean though. The only reason that i got a... More

the one word i can use to describe the Flying pig Downtown would be ; fabulous. After reading some mixed reviews before leaving, we were expecting to find a dirty, grimey hostel, that was or possibly wasn't near the famous red light district and we definitely were not expecting to receive the 'included' breakfast. We coukdn't have been more pleasantly... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
