I stayed here about a year ago after reading several positive reviews. It turned out not quite what I;d hoped. The place itself was nice enough and the breakfast was very nice. The problem I found was with the other guests mainly. These were mostly teenagers, many of which were our American Cousins and pumped full of Amsterdam spirit. Thinking... More

This is a hostel with a great atmosphere and situated in the heart of old town Amsterdam. Clean, laid back with a friendly atmosphere, I would recommend it highly. Not for those who do not have an open mind or who want a quiet retreat. Be prepared to have fun!

Have stayed in the Flying Pig a few times and I recommend it to anyone that is going to Amsterdam! It has such a fun but chilled atmosphere, awesome bar and smoking area downstairs. Location is perfect - 5 min walk from the train station in the centre of the shopping strip and a few streets away from the Red... More

The hostel is really easy to find, especially if you are coming to amsterdam via train. Its 5 minutes walk from the central station. Its location is brilliant, walkable distance from the city center, and other attraction points. The staff is really friendly, easy going. Felt comfortable in the hostel. The breakfast was okay. Like boiled eggs, bun, cheese and... More

Because this hostel was nearly booked out when we made a reservation, we had to stay in three different rooms. The best room, surprisingly, turned out to be the 32 bed dorm. The room was kind of separated into sections so that it didn't feel so big. The worst was the room with only single beds - it had a... More

I had to take an extra night in Amsterdam and chose the Flying Pig Downtown based on it's very central location, and I am glad I did. The hostel is great, really laid back and everyone getting on well. The staff were very sympathetic to my difficult position having lost my passport and thus having no ID, but they sorted... More

After reading so many glowing reviews, me and my friend opted for the Flying Pig Downtown to start off our interrail trip. The receptionist was very friendly and gave us a map and some good info about the Dam. The room was fairly small, the bathroom was also fairly cramped. It wasn't dirty - just not particularly clean. The bar... More

Fourth accomodation I've stayed at in Amsterdam and absolutely loved this hostel. Situated right in the middle of Amsterdam, but one laneway off Damrak so wasn't as noisy! A friend and I booked into a 4 bed dorm with private bathroom, saw only one of our dorm buddies once. Bathroom is small but its all you need, life's too short... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
