We had a great time at the Flying Pig Downtown. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They helped us look up train schedules and departure time. Definitely went above and beyond. It's a great atmosphere. There is a bar right next to the reception with cheap drinks. All the guests are young and friendly. Seems that everyone is smoking... More

When I arrived, I had booked 4x nights. First of all, you should know the lounge area is available all hours to drink and smoke (both cigarettes and hash). I'm not a prude by any means and certainly enjoyed the local traditions while in Amsterdam, but I did not want to come home to it after being in it all... More

Dear Elena, We regret reading your experiences while staying with us. We are always on top of our cleaning and maintenance of the Pig hostels, which is a real challenge with so many people looking for good times with friends and others. That's the beauty of backpacking though! Most people love and keep coming back to the Pig for the... More

The best thing about 'the pig' is the location, being very close to the Central Station and sights, with lots of bars and other facilities close by. Rooms were hostel style but on the basic end for hostels in Europe but were clean and comfortable. The atmosphere was relaxed (as you would expect in Amsterdam!). The bar was a good... More

This hostel is in a great location, beside the central station, shops, coffee shops and attractions. You kinda get a feel for what kinda place it is straight away when u walk in and music is pumping, people drinkin / smoking etc. The reception and bar are combined. but once you get past that you blend in no prob. I... More

Good location, and a good place to stay – depending on what your expectations are. This is a party spot, really smoky lobby / bar, lots of people – but a good place to hang out after visiting the local coffee shops. The room was nothing special, the shower wasn’t a highlight of the trip by any means… but the... More

We stayed at the flying pig downtown hostel and we were impressed with how convienently located everything was. Practically, 2 minutes away from everything... Train Station, Coffe-shops, Shopping, Great Food, The Red- Light District. As for cleanliness, it was disgusting!!!! The morning that we left, someone had dropped their drawers and pooped in the hall right in front of our... More

You walk in to this louder and pretty busy hostel. Good music playing. The front desk was friendly. The rooms were clean, the bathrooms could be updated and had a sewer smell, but that could have been just our room. If you are just looking for a place to sleep it's great. If you are looking for a place to... More

A really great place to stay, really enjoyed it, the main lounge is so chilled out, a great place to sit back and smoke with your friends. A few minor things though, one room smelt like expired scrambled eggs which was pretty disgustign and some of the doors did not always work getting in and out. The thing I liked... More

I've now stayed at the Flying Pig four times, I wouldn't even consider anywhere else for a trip to Amsterdam. In fact this hostel is the best one I've ever stayed at. The location is great - parallel to the Damrak and moments from the Red Light District. The security is excellent. The atmosphere is incredibly laid back, even for... More

reading some of the reviews below it seems some people dont understand what amsterdam is about. being as its one of the only places in the world where you can smoke weed in public places, people flock there in the thousands just to get stoned. as a result, its a bit of a party place and a lot of the...
