I couldn't believe how small the rooms are in this hotel my garden shed is bigger than the rooms offered in this hotel these rooms would be acceptable if you were paying £20 a night but not with the price of 140 euros per night. the bathroom was so small you had to back in and stunk of damp due... Fantastic location but hotel is really poor standard! Bed is awful, pillows are awful, was upgraded to 5th floor luxury room, dread to think what standard is!! Adjoining doors, allowing extra noise from neighbours! Breakfast is sub standard, you won't starve but it's poor!! As I write this from my room and ant walked over my laptop!! Have to say... More

The good points - lovely range of breakfast buffet, frequently topped up. Friendly and helpful staff. We liked the location too - the hotel is on a quiet street yet is only a very short walk from bars and restaurants, and of course the main museums. The less good points - the first room we were given was tiny. I... More

This hotel has an excellent location, near two museums and within walking distance of the centre, but it is not great. The standard rooms are very small and the bathroom is minute. Single beds are only 80 cm wide! More expensive rooms are bigger but can be very noisy, both street noise and noise from inside the hotel. Breakfast is... More

I stayed at the Apollo Museumhotel for two nights on a business trip and was really delighted with it. The rooms are very small and the amenities pretty basic, but this is more than compensated by a really amazing location on the corner opposite the Rijksmuseum and a good welcome from a very friendly and efficient staff. For business -... More

The location is excellent, very close to the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk museum of modern arts etc, also convenient to shopping and the trams as well as restaurants. Staff members that we came across were very friendly and helpful, especially Marjon and Stan. We originally booked a standard double room for three nights, due to the computer... More

This hotel has basic amenities, but the service is great and it's very convenient to the museums, shopping, and the tram. A great place to stay if you actually want to get some sleep. Rooms are very clean and don't smell like smoke like other hotels in Amsterdam. Great front desk staff - as I was checking out, the front... More

A previous review summed this up nicely- a five star location at a the star price. Book a deluxe room if you're claustrophobic as they are small to fit on the old building, bathrooms especially tiny, but not a problem. Staff were faultless, helpful, excellent. Will be happy to return.

A very good budget hotel in a prime location. Rooms small but clean. Very good continental breakfast & friendly staff. Located near the Rijks & several other museums. Pleasant stroll to the Leidesplein & it's dozens of restaurants.

A pleasant, budget-friendly tourist hotel in a fantastic location, half block from Rijksmuseum. Walk to the outermost ring canal, Van Gogh Museum, Diamond Museum, Concertgebouw, Vondelpark, the Holland Casino, Leidesplein's restaurant scene, high end shopping, canal cruise tickets, tram stops. (12€ 48-hour tram pass includes trams, buses, local ferries.) The room was tiny (perhaps better for a single), barely room... More

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
