After taking the longest detour to get to the hostel (which is extremely close to the tram center), my initial impression was "this place has a lot of character". The receptionist is extremely hot and must be a model? The cat looks constantly stoned and there are a few creepy old guys who haven't realised that they are 60 yet.... More

I've stayed at this hostel before, and had an absolute blast, however this time, the experience and the hostel were lacking a bit. Possibly it may have had something to do with the days we visited, however the bar was pretty quiet most nights, and we only met a couple of people during our stay. It wasn't ideal that the... More

Myself and 9 friends started our interrailing experience in Amsterdam. It was enhanced hugely by the friendly staff and secure dorms with lovely people. The drinks were so cheap and the atmosphere on the bar was great the entire time we were there. I strongly recommend this hostel- its location is absolutely perfect and 5 minutes from the train station... More

Visited this hostel for a few weeks during a visit to Amsterdam. Hostel felt very safe and friendly with staff being more than accommodating and welcome. We began to enjoy interacting with staff each evening. Hostel is spacious with varied dorm rooms, bar/lounge area is open late and both entertaining and inviting. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

Stayed here mid July and we had a great experience. Staff were all friendly, the people staying there were also all young (most under 26ish), prices were good considering it was in the BEST location (3 mins from central station and the red lights), the bar in the hostel got very busy every night and you could smoke in there... I arrived to Amsterdam on a Saturday (July 18th)morning during peak tourist season without anywhere to stay. Everywhere was telling me that a last minute Saturday night would be 60€ and there were two night minimums and I thought I'd be homeless in Amsterdam until I found hostel meeting point. I showed up and there was a sign on the... More

Stayed there with three other friends because their 4bed private room was the cheapest in Dam (and also on the main street!), but we were happily surprised by the amenities offered. There is no kitchen but they offer toasties at pretty much any time of night, same goes for some drinks in case of severe dry mouth and munchies. The... More

Bad: no power in the rooms (have to charge everything in the bar) The bar was also the only room with wifi Very dirty with a musty smell Covered in graffiti Rudimentary lock system: There was only one lock and that was at the front door, and instead of keys they give you a flimsy piece of paper to show... Great place to stay, good atmosphere and cheap drinks with a 24/7 bar. The staff were lovely also. Location was perfect right in the middle of everything. However there was no guest kitchen so this was only a small downside, however food was available to buy so no real downsides. Will definitely return.

Very cheap for an excellent location; right in the centre, a couple of minutes away from the train station with a great view. Wifi is only via access with facebook after liking their page!! So no free wifi! We had a quiet room with nice people on the last floor, so far enough from the noisy bar, which also smelt... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
