This hostel offers you a place to sleep, nothing more. You can't cook your own food nor you can have beverages from outside the hostel. Bunks have thin mattresses and they're not comfortable. The staff is a bit surly and does'nt cooperates much if you need any help. Showers are fine and clean.

It is the only hostel in amsterdam with a smoking room, which was awesome. The rooms were fine and cheap but the italian guy at the recepcion wasnt so great. Very good situation also. In general a good experience.

Great value hostel, perfect location. Rooms and shower rooms spotless . would highly recommend it, only point to improve is WiFi in rooms , WiFi only works in bar. Staff very friendly also and drink at the bar is cheap compared to other places we went to .

The hostel is located in the centre of Amsterdam and close to everything so that is the best part. The staff were friendly and the rooms were clean. I stayed for only one night, the beds were comfortable and I had a good night's sleep. The rooms do not have charging points so in order to charge phones, one has... More

This hostel was in the perfect location. Before booking we were worried about it being so near to the red light district. It is very near to it, say 5 minutes walk, but it's the perfect distance. Hostel was in the centre of everything, near the sex museum, red light district, many of the cafes including Bulldog and Baba. Also... More

Pay more for a better place. Security is not great: there is a 24 hour reception desk where you flash a little piece of paper (don't lost it!) indicating that you're staying at the hostel, and beyond this initial entryway, there are no locks on any of the doors. There are flimsy lockers for storing your things, but I didn't... More

Friendly staff, great location near the red light district. I have stayed at flying pig before which was more expensive with a similar room condition and size but double the price- I would choose this every time. The £9 a night is likely cheapest you'll get in Amsterdam. Lockers were large and felt my items were safe during our stay.... More

Is defiantly value for money since the Hostel is in a pretty good location, only few minutes walk from the Central station and 30 minutes from the airpot by train. There are lots of shops, restaurants and it's super close to all the main attractions. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. I like how the hostel was very clean, I was... More

We stayed for about 5 nights in this hostel, and overall impression is fairly good 1) Pro's : veeeeery close to city center and central station, has a unique atmosphere in common room, staff is pretty nice, breakfast is very cheap as beverages too 2) Con's: rooms are very cheap (that's why the price is reasonable), some of the guests... Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
