The location of the hostel is great, very central and near Leidseplein which has numerous bars, coffeeshops and restaurants, as well as close to Vondel Park. Upon arrival, we were charged more than we expected; we booked online and paid a 12 euro deposit yet when we arrived we were given a price not quoted online and a lot of... More

Overpriced- it should be worth 15 euro a night at most. Tiny, smelly and grungy rooms with no AC/fan/general ventilation. The reception area is small, hot, and shouldn't even count as a lounge or "hang out" area. The only other area to relax is the smoking room. Breakfast is overpriced and not included and my key card deposit was 15... More

Excellent location. Lots of stairs (as stated in earlier reviews) but that's the nature of the type of buildings found in Amsterdam. A stag-do consisting of nine of us stayed in a three-person room and a six-person room..... Found them to be clean, comfortable and what is to be expected for a hostel. The communal areas were comfortable and the... More

The rooms were clean and not to big (in the number of beds) but big enough (with the number of beds in there). Plenty of lockable storage space and clean in the rooms/bathrooms. Very friendly staff although we did not spend much time in the hostel!

The stairs leading up to the hostel are so steep and very difficult to walk up, even when sober. I shared a room with 6 of my friends. Somehow, 3 bunk beds and one single bed were squished into a room the would comfortably fit a double bed. Doors slam all day and night so can be difficult to sleep.... More

100 Euros to sleep on a jail bunk in a baking room with six other farting snoring guys! "Budget" hostel? To add insult to injury they want 3 euros extra for towel and 3 euros extra if you want a lock for your cupboard. As a hostel it is fine but I think it is overpriced. No breakfast and you... More

Not the place to stay if you want even a bit of sleep. The doors were slam slam slam all through the night due to the key card system. Great location and good showers with separate toilets on each floor. However, the actual building feels quite cramped with not much natural light.

Had to find a hostel very last minute with some friends and so picked the International Budget Hostel. Location is fantastic and you're really within walking distance to city centre. Located along a canal so the views are nice. Unfortunately, the location is about all this hostel has going for it. Emphasis on the "budget" in the hostel name because... More

Your room is opened with a keycard you get. Inside your room there are lockers/safes that are very big and free to use. The pillows and beds are better than most budget hotels I have stayed in. There is free wifi that works great for browsing. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and have perfect English skills like 99%... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
