We went to Amsterdam as a group of 10 people, and stayed in a 10 person hostel room in the Bulldog Hotel. Usually these rooms are sold as individual beds, and its also worth bearing in mind that this hotel does have private rooms and apartments too. The location is very good, one block from the red light district, 10... More

My situation with this hostel (it's a hostel and a hotel) is a little complicated to explain, but essentially I booked two nights at the hostel in May, e-mailed them in plenty of time to ask if I could change my booking to a couple of weeks later and then stayed with the hostel at the new date. After staying... More

Stayed over the weekend with a few of my girlfriends for a birthday. Bulldog is a chain, it has quite a distinct character, the bit of fun makes it stand out for this reason. We stayed in a triple room for two nights, I think it cost around 80 euros each or something, it might have been a bit more... More

We stayed at the Bulldog in March 2009, travelling in a large group of males. The room we stayed in was a large dormitory which we had to ourselves due to the number of us. It was pretty similar to other hostels I had stayed in in the city - pretty grotty but clean enough and does the job when... More

So, this place would probably be fine for a back-packer looking to re-enact scenes from "Euro-Trip". But, this is not a good place to take someone you actually care about. I was entertained by a 2am fire alarm, and watching all the tripped out kids totally confused. Good location if you want to be near the Red-Light District (which we... More

I have been back to Amsterdam once a year since 2006. Based on my first experience with the Bulldog, I have stayed there every time since. I can't say enough wonderful things about the Bulldog. It's extremely clean, convenient and reasonably priced. Perhpas where the Bulldog excels in my view is the friendliness of the staff. I always am made... More

Stayed at the Bulldog last Thursday night. In my opinion the bed linen was not changed after someone leaves. All the bed linen seemed to be in a scruffy state that suggested that the previous occupier was still staying yet new people were arriving. The knives at the breakfast table looked dirty and i had to search the cutlery tray... More

Amsterdam: beautiful row houses, Anne Frank, canals, Rijksmuseum, marijuana. You know you thought of it too. As much as Amsterdam has to offer in the way of high art and culture, the “drug tourism” associated with the famously liberal city is omnipresent. Cannabis use and sale is tolerated in the Netherlands as, unlike in most of Europe, drug use is... More

The Bulldog is one of the legendary youth hostels popular with backpackers in Amsterdam. Located along a canal, only 1-2 blocks from the central Dam Square, the Bulldog has become an Amsterdam institution, with a several buildings stretching along the canal for 2-3 city blocks with Bulldog gift shop, cafe, bar, hostel, etc. Housed in a typical old Amsterdam building,... A friend of ours stayed here before and recommended it to us. We had a problem with another hotel (which we refused to stay at), and the staff at the Bulldog were able to accommodate us straight away with no hassle! The only apartment they had left was for 4 people (we were 5), they gave it to us for... More
