We arrived at Bob's Youth Hostel and found the office in the basement, you could not see it from the pavement too well as it was more like a drug den and was full of people smoking from their water bongs, on top of that you had to avoid the nutters chucking their lit butts from their rooms. We had... More

While Bob's Youth Hostel is functional I found the following things made my stay less than satisfactory: 1. I stayed in a large dorm with about 20 people. It was much too big and my stuff never felt safe. Even the cheap wooden lockers seemed minimally secure. 2. The linens seemed dirty and inadequate. The bed was gross. No other... More

Reviewer: JABE from New Zealand July 14, 2005 My friends and I (the four of us) decided to stay there since it was close to the busy area. To avoid the crowd and sleeping with strangers in the same room, we made a booking for one bed room for just the four of us a couple of months prior to... More

Bobs Youth Hostel: Comfortable and Safe Finding Bobs from Central Station wasnt very difficult, ask around and someone will point you in the right direction. (Check a map before you leave). The hostel has a killer spiral staircase which can make you cope with amsterdam's charm. After a wild day of harmony(vices, pleasures and the forbidden) the staircase wakes you... More

We were all set to stay in the dorms, but had a change of heart at the last minute. Bob's has apartments and if you are travelling in as a couple or a trio, the apartment comes out to about 10 euros more than the dorm and it was worth every penny. The apartment was very spacious, fully furnished and... More

Oh my gosh; thats all I have to say. Well I was tripping out most of the time at Bobs, but the few things i remember were....first of all I thought I was staying at Bobs Senior Citizen Hostel because there was this old man in our room which scared me. But it was chill that we could smoke and... More

I was at Bob's for New Years Eve 1995 and let me tell ya "I'm still seein' stars!" If you go,..Remember that New Year's Eve is the ONLY day that they allow fireworks in Amsterdam. I mean "professional fireworks "right in the middle of the street!! The following day the whole street in front of Bob's was red with fireworks... More

I think that when you go in Amsterdam is not important where are you going to sleep! Anyway, I liked Bob's,it is a small, simple place with young people.

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
