Great hotel located very close to the train station in Amsterdam. The rooms are small and stylish. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There's a couple of comfy sofas to hang out on with a beer by the bar which is generally pretty quiet, nice to unwind after a day walking/cycling around town. Breakfast is pretty basic but nice.... No better place to stay in Amsterdam...Great location, service and staff. I would highly recommend. Peaceful Herengraght Canal stay and yet very close to lots of fun on nearby Haarlemstrat. I stayed when this Hotel was the Chic and Basic and I didn't think it could be better, but surprisingly was even better.

Me and my boyfriend booked to stay here in September 2014. Our stay was perfect from the moment we walked in to when we left. The hotel was in a great location, down the road from the cafes, bars and Anne Frank's house. The hotel room was huge and the shower room was a good size, too. The staff were... More

I had a wonderful stay in March 2015. The room, although small, was very comfortable and we loved the decoration. The stairways are very steep, however the hotel in based in 3 Dutch houses so I loved the whole feel of the place. The bar area was welcoming and the staff were helpful and attentive. This is my 5th trip... More

Very stylish, very cosy hotel in central Amsterdam, minutes from the station and main attractions. Very nice location on the Herengracht canal, with cool restaurants and shops just a few minutes walk away. The staff were more than helpful and the continental breakfast was plentiful and of a very good standard (despite some reviews on here!). The room (superior) was... More

Staff lovely, breakfast was plentiful and very tasty. Great location. The only criticism was that I paid by debit card not credit card and they took deposit and then full amount. I did get a refund of extra money taken but I had to call about 3 times when I was back home. Hopefully just a glitch and not a... More

Before booking a room at the Max Brown Hotel I only briefly looked at the reviews on here and now I really wish I'd dug a little deeper, don't disregard the bad reviews like I did!! I was completely sucked in by their impressive website! The rooms in the pictures looked fantastic and so we booked a 'Superior' room for... More

This is a small hotel where you can really experience Amsterdam. The steep stairs to the top floor only added to our enjoyment. The lovely young man who checked us in kindly offered to carry our suitcase, we were glad he insisted. We had a superior room with canal view, and it was so worth it. We were so lucky... More

The good: quiet, cosy, great location in a canal house on the Herengracht and near station. Good shower. Cool reception area where drinks served all day. The bad: breakfast served buffet style in a room too small for guests. If you are tetchy in the mornings avoid it. Too many people milling around zombie fashion. Once you have queued behind... More

Dear PaulaB011, Thank you so much for your honest review! Your text made us smile, especially the part about you climbing the stairs knowing it's the charm of the monumental building. Indeed we have no elevators (just like in the 16th century). We hope to welcome you again as our guest... and if so please let us know upfront so... More

I stayed at this hotel for one night but greatly enjoyed it. The room I stayed in was on the first floor (stairs are very narrow and steep) with a view of the Herengracht (canal). The room was impeccabily clean and the decor trendy. The Herengracht itself is pretty quiet at night (at least when I was staying there). The... More
