This is a 16 room hotel on a quiet street in the museum district. It is run by a friendly couple, Hans and Loes de Rapper. The location is convenient for both walkers and those using public transportation. Energetic travelers with not too much luggage can get a tram (2 or 5) outside the train station and be at the... This is a gem of a hotel, clean and friendly and the location is ideal for both the Museums and the Centre of Amsterdam. Loes, Hans and the staff were always happy to help with any questions. and provide a great breakfast to start the day. Get your Museum tickets from the hotel and as well as the discount you... More

Stayed 6 nights last April over Queen's day. Room was comfortably clean, hotel location was perfect, and breakfast was delicious. Added to that is the free phone call to the US and internet access to check your email. Hans, Loes and staff are wonderful hosts. Will definitely come back to Amsterdam and stay at Hotel Fita.

Quiet situation in the "Museum District", with easy access to public transport, Vondel Park, shopping area etc. with lots of very good restaurants, bars, brown cafes within a few minutes walk. Friendly staff, happy to give advice & information. Hans has a good sense of humour, in the Basil Fawlty style! & cooks a good breakfast. The hotel is spotlessly... More

Hotel Fita is a respite from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam. The smoke free environment is very pleasant. A comforting feature is the free long distance capability from one's room. It definitely beats the pay phone at the train station with the calling card that sometimes works. The room we stayed in (14) was clean, comfortable and large. Even... More

We stayed at Hotel Fita for 4 nights over the Queens Day weekend from April 28 to May 2 with our two children and my husbands' parents. The hotel's location is perfect, only one street over from the Van Gogh Museum. It remained remarkably quiet and peaceful even as the Queens Day celebration raged on over behind the Van Gogh... We stayed four nights at Hotel Fita in early May and were delighted. Hans and the entire staff were very friendly and helpful. Free calls to the USA is a definite plus. Location by the two main museums in Amsterdam and proximity to trams is ideal. Nice quiet street and really nice clean rooms. Breakfast was very good with fresh... More

Loes, Hans and staff were excellent hosts and made me feel welcome and well supported. That, along with free phone service anywhere in the Netherlands and to the States, e-mail, a great breakfast each day, and a perfect location (easy walking distance to the museums, Vondelpark, and Leidseplein), made this hotel a fabulous bargain.

We stayed five nights at the Fita the last week of April, 2007. The location of the hotel is outstanding. The major art museums and the most upscale shopping in the city are within a block or so, and the hotel is well-served by trams 2 and 5 (Central Station.) We paid 150 euros per night for a sunny corner... More

My son Matthew (age 6) and I spent 4 nights at Hotel Fita in April 2007. First, the hotel is spotless! We had a standard room and the bathroom was 3 times the size of most European bathrooms and it was very, very clean. The bed was comfortable, a flat screen TV, safe to store valuables, closet and hot pot.... More

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
