Stayed here for a long weekend, at €420 it wasn't the cheapest..but didn't expect it to be more of a hostel than hotel! Room was small, smelt musty and was dirty. No facilities to speak off, wifi did not work in the rooms, most of the lights were out, and sockets halfway up the wall with nowhere to place anything!... More

noisy until 2 a.m. and VERY small rooms. Internet is free but not reliable 24/24u. Disconnects. Breakfast is free and minimum, but eatable. Location is very good, many shops nearby. Photos are misleading. Rooms are clean but may contain flees. No refrigorator on room. ventilator present. A lot of stairs. Not advisable for allergic sensitive people due to tapistry outside... Every employee was super helpful and the small room was exactly what I was looking for! Location is awesome, 2 mins from train and close to everything. Try and get a room that looks out at the canal of possible -- I loved waking up and looking out at it.

Very disappointed. Paid €260 for 2 nights, the room was tiny. No space about 1 ft in total next to bed to walk in. Matress really bad. Shower was either boiling or freezing. Had to sit sideways on toilet as wall right in front of it! I had a look around and for that price there were so many better... More

We were at a family, two adults and three children, we were with lots of luggage and discovered that there is NO lift when we were already in, it's no written anywhere that there isn't an elevator in the hotel and I did not think to ask. Fortunately the room was a 30 very steep and narrow stairs, but nothing... More

I mean bed bugs. Room 3 I Lifted our pillows before we left as we were all bitten to death, underneath was a family... More

Hotel Vijaya was in a great, convenient location - for nights out, shopping and if you're interested it's right on the red light district. The room was basic but clean and suited all our needs. Would highly recommend if you're planning a girls holiday, as it feels safe but exciting too! The staff were friendly, were happy to book a... More

Stayed here for 2 nights and for the price i cudnt complain. I stayed in room 17 which was right at the top of the house which involved walkin up 59 steps not good when you are wearing a killer pair of heals. Room basic but clean towels changed daily. View from my room was great and hotel its self... More

Room is adequate. Very clean but older furnishings. Typical steep steps to get to your room. Decent breakfast. This hotel is 100 steps to the red light district! Handy If that's what you're looking for.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
