We booked a dorm of 8 beds and we finally slept in a dorm with 20 beds!!! You better be drunk if you want to sleep because each time that somebody comes back to the room, it is very noisy...and yes I confirm the bed bugs!!!!!!!!!!!! we were 8 and 2 of my friends got bugs problems!! Furniture is old... More

This was the quintessential hostel, in my mind. The rooms were big and full of beds (there must have been 20+), the bathrooms were just as big, and everything was as impersonal and Spartan as it gets. Not that I'm complaining ... the location was really great and safe, the facade was beautiful, the experience overall ok. That's just it... More

This was my first time staying in a hostel, and except for the girl who kept me up all night with her cough, it was great. The hostel staff wasn't overly friendly, but they were nice. The rooms were clean and so were the beds. The lockers were pretty big and they provide you with a lock. The bathroom area... More

I've stayed here many times over the last few years. Stadsdoelen is, in my expericence, clean, safe and in a great central location that quiet enough to get some sleep. It's not a party hostel, but there's no curfew and there is a cheap bar in the building - between 11pm and 7am you are expected to be respectful towards... More

This hostel was terrible!!! Not only was there hair in our "clean" sheets which we put on the beds ourselves, but I noticed red hives & bumps all over my body after sleeping there, which I soon found out were bed bug bites. It was a disaster when I got home, we had to fumagate our flat, and clean every... More

We stayed in an 8-people room (we were 7) so we had a "visitor" every two days, that was nice because we met interesting people. What we didn´t like was that they told us that they had gest kitchen and it wasn´t. We were going to stay there for 8 nights, so it was important for us to have a... More

Stayed in this hostel for three nights during an Interrail trip through France, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Belgium. Has a decent breakfast buffet included in the price. Stayed in a 12 person dorm room. Staff make an effort at trying to keep things clean, but the sheer affluence of people makes it difficult. Great location near nightclubs, cheap supermarket, Red Light... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
