I stayed at St Christopher's and brought in the new year hear. I was anxious about my first hostel experience but the way the hostel is managed, the facilities and staff made it one of the most incredible places I have ever stayed. Traveling to a city with friends I will always chose the hostel route from now on (most... More

By far the best hostel I've ever stayed at by myself for inner city. Stayed in an 8 person mixed down but they do have private rooms and bigger dorms as well. Lots of space to hang out indie and outside to meet people as well as a spear ate smoking area and they also have a club attached! Would... More

Right around the corner from the world famous RedLight District... Coffee-shops all over the place and you can bring your herbs and smoke ém inside the large smoking room at the Winston hotel. Great location, awesome atmosphere and helpful staff. Food is also great. I would recommend this to all my friends. Keep up the good work, cheers!!

Really great location close to the heart of amsterdam, paid a good price to stay there. With super helpful staff all day around and good grub there i'd definitely come back again! Also the place is always filled with people so it's super easy to find new friends.

Just stayed here for 1 night... The sound proof is so bad that we could here all kind of noise from all over from the neighbour room talking, singing, shouting, the street noise, the bell from the nearby church, the exhaust sound sound. It's totally a restless night that we have. Our room is at second floor. If you love... More

We are in a busy area, and we can totally appreciate that it can be loud at times. We will look into the feedback that you gave us regarding soundproofing within the hostel. The best thing about this hostel is its location. Just minutes walking from Amsterdam Central Station, just next to red light district, and walking distance to some attraction. The room is very clean, private locker and power outlet are provided inside the room as well as coin locker near the receptionist. This hostel has the same entrance door with the... More

The location was great: Being close to Dam Square is excellent for sightseeing and meet all Amsterdam . The rooms were always clean and towels changed when I came back at night. Being in a hostel is very cool, because you know people from the whole world! I shared the room with 7 people and each day I had a... More

The hostel is not worth the price, it doesn´t have a kitchen or a common place to really hang out, we had to pay to put the luggage in the lockers and the staff from the bar took us a beer when we were eating, the only good thing is the location and the beds.

Thank you very much for your constructive feedback. We are indeed not the kind of hostel where people can cook themselves and we also don't have a common room other than our bar. We do, however, give 25 % discount on our food menu and we have several drink deals. In regards to the drink, we didn't take it, but... More

I would recommend St. Cristopher's to anyone. It was especially suited to our student holiday. The price was reasonable, the room was perfect (especially the boxes that stored all our clothes away) and the food was nice but it was the service that made it for me. A friend of ours lost her passport on our last night and was... More

The room and bathroom facilities were clean and beds were comfortable. The location is perfect, minutes from the station and the city centre. Breakfast between 8 and 10 is lovely, fresh fruit, bread, cheese, juice etc. Staff were friendly. My only negative would be that it is quite noisy as there is a night club attached to the hostel. Although,... More

Thank you very much for your kind review! We appreciate that it can be a bit loud at times, as we are right next to the Red Light District and we have a bar and a club in the building, and we're sorry about that. As you mentioned, please take us up on a few pairs of ear plugs, which... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
