Most people who give this place a bad review are obviously expecting too much. Yes its basic, but the rooms are of good size , theres a friendly atmosphere and then theres the nice breakfast too! beerstocked machines always available and theres also free internet! me and 7 mates stayed for just the one night and everyone liked the place.... more

Let's be real,you do not want to take your loved one in this rat-hole. At the time we used to go,few years ago,they did not even provide towels in the rooms,you had to go in the back of the house in this sort of boiler room and pick an old but clean towel from a full stack of them left... more

At the time of booking, 'Hotel' Hortus seemed the best option to go for because it was reasonably priced. We did not know what we were letting ourselves in for! on first impressions when you get out side the hotel it looks like any other hotel in amsterdam but when you walk in to the hotel its a different story. I've stayed here a few times and I really like it for the money! 25 euros per night and that includes breakfast 2 eggs, toast and all the coffee you can drink all day. The rooms include clean sheets! The stairs can be a pain when you are up on the upper levels. This place is more like a hostel... more
