I can't give this place 5 stars for the simple reason that the dorm lockers are horrendous - they are merely a cage and other people can quite easily steal from them even if they are padlocked. However, I can't fault the hostel in everything else. Receptionists were friendly and competent, the bar/lounge had a great atmosphere, with trippy decor... More

This is definitely not a place for someone who is looking for quite, chill ambiance (it's Amsterdam). Great Stuff, made a lot of friends, was a great stay. They have a nice bar, although they have no clue how to make cocktails but was fun. You get to meet some nice people in the smoking room as well.

The staff was friendly and helpful, but if you feel like you might be too old for a youth hostel than this will definitely not suit you. Cleanliness was an issue for me making me checkout early and get an air bnb around the area.

Very friendly and informative staff. Good price for the rooms, my husband and I got a double ensuite. This includes a very decent breakfast which will save you at least 13 euros or more if you are on a budget and clean shower facilities. But be warned... the stairs will give you a workout ;)

The flying pig uptown is a great hostel, specially if you are travelling by yourself which was my case. It has the perfect hostel atmosphere, everything you expect from being in this kind of accomodation. Breakfast is great, included and the staff is very helpful. The beds are great, with a plug for each one and lockers are really big.... More

Great location, great staff, super cool place. But not as cool as I am. The smoking room trumps most coffeeshops. I sat there for `6 hours a day some days. Really wish I could've stayed longer, and really wish I got that swedish? birds number on Australia day. Cheers for the great time - that guy (Chris)

A fantastic hostel with fantastic staff and a good vibe. Rooms were nice, facilities were decent, breakfast was okay. The smoking room was nice. For the price we paid, it was fantastic. I personally liked the fact it was outside the city. You saw more this way. Also where my friend first met her now fiance who was sharing a... More

I cannot recommend Uptown enough. I went with 5 friends and myself, no one but myself had stayed in a hostel before. It took a lot of convincing but they agreed to stay in somewhere with shared rooms (14 beds). I'd never stayed at this hostel but heard nothing but positive stories, I eventually opted for Uptown as we didn't... More

I travelled alone and was thrilled to meet such a vast array of lovely people - including the staff. Great breakfast, delicious drinks, munchies available when necessary! All amenities were clean and were otherwise seen to ASAP just as long as you told a staff member! Great central location with a comprehensive map given to you on arrival. I was... More

A lovely hostel, clean, quirky, fairly spacious (for a city). Plenty of facilities. Friendly and helpful staff. For me, if was far too noisy (there is a late night bar there). I don't feel the hostel is deceptive about this as its clear to see on their website this is a party hostel. I did want to party but I... More

Hello, Thank you for your positive and constructive feedback, we appreciate you taking the time. We are happy you found the hostel a clean and lively spot, thank you for this. However, we are disappointed that you decided to leave early. Our bar can be loud if there is a party going on, but we try to ensure the music... More

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
