We loved the newly renovated hotel, since it says Rijksmuseum in the lobby and in the rooms, with the outsized reproductions of the city's most famous paintings. But for us the service was the most important factor making us glad we chose a full-service hotel. We made several requests at the front desk over our stay, and each time the... More

Husband and I have visited the hotel last weekend (10Aug) and it was fantastic! The location, decor, building as well as the restaurants in the hotel are perfect! We arrived on Friday late evening and were checked in and shown to the room in no time and were down for a light dinner and drinks straight away. The view from the... More

The hotel DE L' EUROPE has excellent rooms in a great location. However my Wife and I thought the food in the Brasserie and Terrace was poor , and the service was very variable for breakfast. For example I had to wait for over 15 minutes to get a fried egg even after giving 2 reminders. As a result apart... More

We walked and cruised Amsterdam for 4 days and couldn't find anywhere remotely close to the De L'Europe in terms of facilities and location. The decor is modern, bold and well done, the location is perfectly located, central to all the places you want to be, excellent breakfast options and above all, the best waterside terrace in the city where... Very nice. If we return to The Dam we will definitely stay at this hotel. We celebrated my husband's birthday and the hotel noted our celebration and provided wine and treats. Really enjoyed the spa like feel to our spacious bathroom.Staff were professional and accommodating.

A 2 night business trip led me to this hotel. And what a find! This is no ordinary hotel, its like a family run hotel (but where the family actually like each other and get on!) Staff mostly long-term, and CANNOT do enough for you and the best part is they mean it! I have been staying in 5 star... More

This was the best hotel we ever stayed in terms of service and accommodations, aside from Trump Towers in Toronto. The room was beautiful and don't get me started on the pool overlooking the river. My husband and I spent three days in heaven. The staff we encountered were all very polite and modest, and there to help. Other than... More

This hotel has everything, after having business traveled Asia (primarlily India), Europe and USA, this hotel is definetliy unique-. Atmosphere is one of a kind, and not newly build luxurury which normally is experienced by me as overdoing it without quality at the core. This hotel is not about fancy interior architect designed rooms, it is about excellent service, genuine... More

Fantastic hotel, made my whole Amsterdam experience. As soon as you get there you directly understand that this is the best hotel of Amsterdam. Beautiful from the outside, all the way to the inside. When we arrived, the bellman was extremely nice and also excited to talk about the hotel and show us around the property. The concierge also made... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
