We had a great experience at this fabulous hotel in Amsterdam! We were there in July for 5 nights,so glad we stayed at this property. The rooms were beautiful-we had a balcony overlooking the canal which was great. Fun watching the boats going by. The breakfasts were wonderful in the Hoofdstad Brasserie. A buffet with lots to choose from and... More

We stayed at De L'Europe for three nights in July 2015. Our room overlooked the street and was quiet and beautiful. While the room was quaint and charming, the bathroom was modern with an amazing overhead shower and very deep tub. We were able to walk from the hotel to many nearby sites such as the Reijks Museum, Van Gogh... More

Thanks to Alice at the front desk, we were given a complementary double-class upgrade to a phenomenal corner suite of nearly 1,000 sq. ft. overlooking the river and the canal, with a full living room and work area, three balconies with chairs, a full marble double-sink bathroom with two giant shower heads, and a full marble powder room. We stayed... More

I am writing this review, not in regards to a recent stay, but rather over 10 years of being a guest at the Hotel de l’Europe in Amsterdam. I also am writing this review because I feel strongly that this is the very best hotel I have ever had the pleasure of staying with, anywhere in the world. How many... More

Lovely hotel with great entrance & all the amenities. Boat tour, nice bar and brasserie, superb service. Rooms are larger than you should expect in Europe. Overall, exactly the kind of attention you'd expect to receive at a 5-start.

I'll keep it as concise as I can: Location- Absolutely one of the best locations in Amsterdam. Right on canal, convenient to Rembrandt Square and Spui Square, excellent restaurants nearby and reasonable walking distance to museums and attractions. Staff- An absolute "10"! Helpful, excellent language skills, willing to go the extra mile. Edward at the front desk and Jordan the... More

Right in the middle of town. Beautiful hotel with beautiful view. Be sure to ask for lake view room. It is little pricey, but it is worth it. Book from Expedia to save since walk up prices are too high. Decent breakfast included with the rooms. Staff is extremely friendly.

Our stay at this hotel started at the end of a cruise so we arrived at 9am. Check in time was 3pm but the guests in the room that we had been assigned had a "guaranteed late check out" also at 3pm. The room was not ready until 4:45pm. We found the room had not been cleaned as well as... More

We stayed in an extremely large room with a King bed. We had a street view which was quiet. If you wish to be on the canal book an upgrade as they aren't always available. The room was huge - clean with new modern bath. The concierge was great, the staff very helpful, the breakfast is wonderful, and the location... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
