I thought the room availablity was sort of like a "bait and switch" as we thought had a different room than what we had, were shown a larger room for more money, took it as was indeed nicer, but didn't we ask for it originally? We were very impressed with the women at the front desk for friendliness, helpfulness and... More

Agreed that street-facing room noisy but it is in the heart of a major city. Room clean & refreshed every day, staff really helpful, down to the receptionist who brought a drink of water whilst I stood outside guarding our bikes as husband checked in. Restaurant was excellent if pricey. Didn't quite get the dark purple interior. Ideal location for... More

Stayed in AMS prior to my London Visit. Location is great, I would say nearly anything and everything is a 15 minute walk. Close enough where you are walking through the streets with the canals and homes with personality. Service, first off I arrived at 10 am, not sure what is check in - but a after speaking to the... The Albus is a very well located to all of the museums, historical areas, Palace, shopping, restaurants. It is a completely remodeled hotel. It is the embodiment of form over function. It is really contemporary and well done. There is free espresso in your room. The service was very good. Functionality is compromised for style, however, so if you are... More

We booked a double room in January for a May arrival and they still gave us one of the worst rooms-facing the street. We phoned ahead to check our reservation but the person who answered could not speak English well enough to even copy down a phone number and we never got a call back. We asked for single beds... I apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced during your stay at the Albus. Yes, we should have called you back but without having a phone number taken by our bad speaking and understanding English night porter is hard to do. We have double and twin beds in our room. Both can be reserved on forehand through our Reservation site.... More

Great location: Rijksmuseum 2 minutes; canal walks to Dam Sq and the rest of the old quarters, at the door. The hotel? Staff very friendly but not in your face; room service quick and not deathbed money; terrific restaurant menu (we actually, went out but I'd have loved to sample here) and room very comfortable and clean. We're here on... More

The staff were friendly, professional and helpful. The location is hard to beat but beware of rooms facing the street! We were on the 6th floor & even in late winter/early spring the room was hot enough during the night that we had to have a fan (thoughtfully provided, along with earplugs) on all night. We tried opening the window... More

The excellent location, the quality of the rooms and most of all the friendliness of the staff makes this hotel a sure and perfect choice. I've stayed a couple of times, and so have many friends, at this hotel and I can easly recommend it.

I thoroughly enjoyed staying here and I have already recommended it to friends. I'm hoping to come back to Amsterdam in the Autumn for a weekend break rather than business and I'd be looking to stay here again. The service was excellent, staff were very friendly, breakfast was great and plenty of it and the rooms were luxurious. The location... More

The Albus exceeded my expectations. It was much more central than I had anticipated, which was great and although situated in a lively, vibrant area, inside the hotel is calm, sophisticated and restful. The beds are extremely comfortable. I was impressed to have a robe provided for my stay and the shower was a joy to use. The coffee machine... More

Staying in Canal Ring (Grachtengordel)

Neighborhood Profile
Canal Ring (Grachtengordel)
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is as historically significant as it is perennially popular. Whether you’re a history buff, architecture enthusiast, shutterbug, or fashionista, odds are you’ll find the Amsterdam you're looking for while roaming around the Grachtengordel (Canal Ring). A brilliant place to get lost in a moody meander and a key component to any sightseeing trip to Amsterdam, this area's major draws include the Anne Frank House, the Bloemenmarkt floating flower market, an enviable assortment of independent boutiques along De Negen Straatjes, and of course all of Grachtengordel’s lovely canals and bridges.
