This hotel is in a great location near to Leidseplein with its bars and on a beautiful canal. Try to Avoid getting a room on the Leidseplein side unless you plan to drink and party into the early hours of the morning. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Amsterdam hotels always seem to be expensive, although the Eden Amsterdam... More

As a young professional couple travelling around europe you want to spend a bit more money but not pay ridiculous amounts of money. The American Hotel was a great example of value for money. Amazing building, really helpful and friendly service, and we were speechless at how great the breakfast/restaurant room is with the art deco bar and decorations making... More

Enjoyed staying at this hotel but make sure you have a room away from the front or you hear the racket going on all night.

As has been said many times before, the location cannot be faulted. The room was disappointing though and we felt for the price we ought reasonably to have expected more. Having said that we only had to put up with it for two nights and the attention from the staff and the great location kind of made up for it.... More

I have been visiting Amsterdam for a number of years, after living there during 07/08. I always wanted to stay at the American after having eaten at Cafe Americain a few times and being so impressed with the location and landmark that the hotel is. Firstly I'd like to mention that aside from small rooms and generally poor amenities, the... More

expected a lot more based on the positive reviews. Beautiful building and excellent location (maybe best in A'dam). There are lots of positives, particularly if you get the 290Euro executive suite and overlook the canal: room comfortable, good concierges, canal side benches 10 steps from side entrance, beautiful looking dining room and pleasant staff; cool "reading table" for bachelor breakfast... Stayed there over 3 days the last weekend on my first trip to Amsterdam. Fantastic location! Everything including the museums, restaurants, and nightlife were short beautiful walks away. Cosy, comfortable, clean rooms. The service was friendly and impeccable. Very decent buffet breakfast at the gorgeous cafe that overlooks Leidseplein. Requested for a room overlooking the canal as everyone else had... More

I like d this hotel a lot, rooms are big and very clean, but..... the toilet was tiny. Enought room for a 360 degree turn and not a lot else. Food is excellent, breakfast lovely, all in all a great place to stat for business or pleasure.

We got a suite for 5 nights at this hotel. The location is great, close to everything. The tram runs right beside the hotel and a bus runs from the airport to the square (Leidseplein) right beside the hotel so getting around is really easy. The room was fairly large because it was the suite, with a sofa, chairs, a... More

The best thing about this hotel is the exceptionally friendly staff. Otherwise I wasn't bowled over by it. The receptionist told me that it was an art deco hotel but not much of this had been preserved, or looked after in the last renovation of the lobby area. The lobby is large and should be very impressive but the floor... More
