I was a little dubious having read some of the reviews of this hotel - however was more then pleasently surpirsed! It is just out of the town centre on the 16 tram line so easy to get to from Central Station. First impressions - it's a smart hotel, which is always good. Reception staff where friendly enough during check-in... More

We were shocked to come across this supposed 4* hotel where the carpetsand, baths were grubby and badly stained and worn and the rooms small, and cheaply furnished. Location was indifferent .Staff did try to help but this hotel offers nothing of any comfort, distinction or style. If you look for any more than bare functiionality then look elsewhere. It... More

I cannot even say anything good about this!!! For a double room it was tiny!! Cant say I enjoy sharing a room (No.201) with a MOUSE, which I managed to get a picture of..... The hotel staff were not even apologetic, were given another room, mainly a Double Room (as in much larger). Staff were unhelpful. The place is a... More

Quiet setting, convenient to Museums and easy to catch trams to other neighborhoods. Comfortable bed and good shower.

Generally a great hotel. Small and cosy and certainly worth the 4 stars. Helpfull staff and reasonable prices breakfast. Internet included and though a bit out of centre of Amsterdam, a tram/bus stop is very close and parking a car is relatively easy (though, Amsterdam like, expensive). Too bad this hotel doesn't have a gym anymore (they used to have... More

I stayed at this hotel 3 nights. The check-in was ok and a man from the hotel helped me to carry my luggage to my room. The room was small if I compare with other hotels but it was ok. I couldn't open the window hence the view was on a busy street so I had to keep it closed... More

Where to start? The mouse in my room that woke my in the middle of the night by rapping and tapping on my keyboard? They gave me a new room but made me check if it was clean first and naturally offered no help in moving my things. The breakfast order card they never picked up from my door? Not... More

Our stay for 2 nights at the Gresham Memphis was really disappointing. Much was broken (shower, bed, sheet, table) because it was simply old. The city centre is not walking distance. Worst of all was the service. We had an early flight and needed to leave 10 minutes before breakfast time officially started. The guy at the reception couldn't care... More

I stayed here for my last night of a week-long trip to Europe after having been in other parts of Holland and in Paris, and my stay was very pleasant. I took the tram from Centraal Station (around 3 euros) and it dropped me off about a block away. Taking a taxi would definitely be a complete waste of money!... More

We booked 4 rooms in the Hotel Amsterdam based on the low rate we were able to get on the Internet. We are very pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the rooms, the service, and the friendliness of the staff. We particularly appreciated being able to get into our rooms before the check in time, something that it important for... More

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
