Loved this hotel, been there twice. Staff are very friendly. We had a smoking room, wouldn't have noticed people had smoked in it before was very clean and had a beautiful balcony overlooking the canals (both times). Hotel is a little bit dated, but the location and price you pay its worth it. Would definitely go back again.

Well located, beautiful breakfast saloon view facing the canal, rich breakfast options, smoking rooms, the vivid bar downstairs on the corner of the building. The decrepit old style: not so recently refurbished walls, carpets, ceilings, bathrooms, inner doors. They look kind of cheap and worn. Rooms are small and the minibar options, poor. It doesn't justify the price. The right... More

We choose this place because of the location which is about the only thing that is very good. The hotel is on walking distance of all places where al the action is going on: red light district, Rembrandplein and the main shopping streets. The outside of the full hotel is covered in plastic and they are renovating the rooms ,... More

I had a similar experience to other reviewers. The lobby and public spaces are beautiful. The rooms are dated and in need of renovation. This could be a gorgeous hotel. I stayed in a junior suite, and the room was huge (at least by European standards). However, it was not very clean. There was a gum wrapper in the middle... More

This place is clean, roomy and a great location. Staff was friendly, the breakfast was very good and we sat overlooking the canal while eating. There is also an elevator (lift). While it is true that this place Is undergoing renovations, the only issue for us was that we could not look out the window because of the facade they... More

Great location, but the rooms are terribly old and need a huge rebuild to meet normal standards. Internet is also poor and all in all it was not a pleasant experience. Will never book that hotel again

This is not a hotel, this is a building site. Nothing is like the pictures on Booking.com and we had no idea about the condition on the hotel, when we booked it. On room was a high noise from the ongoing renovation work. A work with sledgehammer was so close to our room that it was impossible to talk together.... More

The hotel is fine. It has an excellent location. The rooms are spacious and the bathroom is very comfortable. However it is a very old hotel and for me it seems more of a 3 star than 4 star hotel, so it feels a bit over price. They are remodiling it so i hope this helps. They are working in... More

The Good Nice location, close to some very nice bars and some nice looking canals. The main squares, museums and the red light district are a few minutes away. The building itself is interesting and gives some odd shape rooms to make a change to those identikit hotels. The Bad NH stated that parking was on site but it is... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
