Very central - it's selling point for me. Decor not all it could be. The rooms were an okay size. I think some of the guests were smoking in the rooms. I liked it enough to go back a second time however as I could not find better for the price.

I stayed with my mum a while ago, and i must say that i had a terrific time. The hotel itself is beautiful and classic, it´s close to everything there's it to do in Amsterdam. My only critisism would be the puming, which is beyond old and works rather badly ( the sink and the shower tend to collapse), other... More

A very nice and pleasant place to spend a night or the holidays. The staff is very polite and available. The service and the cuisine are satisfying and the the prices are ok. I will definetly return also for the exclusive location in the heart of Amsterdam.

The hotel gave an antique feel due to the fact that it is amongst the oldest hotel in Amsterdam. The service was outstanding - staff can communicate clearly in English. They were helping us on our train journey as on the checkout day all trains in the Netherlands were cancelled. The room was really clean. The only reason why I... More

The room had a great view on the river, great location-about 15 minutes walk to the train station and all the major tourist attractions, the hotel rooms are quite simple but clean and comfy. The hotel is beautiful.

Great hotel, large rooms with fridge and mini bar but mainly really good location. easy walking distance to Ann Frank museum, market and canal trips. We used the square as a starting point as I found it very hard to get my barrings and got lost very easy! had to get taxi back to hotel on first trip as every... More

The hotel was accommodating and let us check in very early, even though we had not given them any prior warning that we would arrive early. We were given a great welcome by the staff at the reception and it started our stay with a great experience. The lift was slow and felt flimsy but was a minor thing. The... More

Great location near the center on a canal. Property has great potential, and the front desk was very pleasant and helpful. The hotel was starting to go under a total renovation, which it desperately needs. Our room should have had a great view over the canal, but we could not see out due to the construction scaffolding - and so... More

My friend and I booked our trip pretty last minute so we ended up staying in a higher-end hotel than we would usually book. That being said, our standards aren't too high, but we were certainly happy with this hotel! The reception area was nice with friendly staff and we loved our room! We called the beds "cloud beds" because... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
