I visit Amsterdam oftenand have stayed in 8-10 hotels, a couple of B&Bs and a couple of apartments. The Estherea is probably my favorite of the hotels. It is as comfortable as the big chain hotels like the Radisson, but it has more charm, as it is a family owned establishment. The rooms are large and clean. The staff is... More

An outstanding hotel with incredible attention to detail. There are so many fine touches that distinguish this place that it would be impossible to do it justice in a brief note such as this. Take it for granted that the staff is professional, courteous and friendly. The rooms are not huge but by European standards are perfectly sized and extrememly... More

This is a great place to stay in Amsterdam. The location is central to just about everything the typical tourist wants to do. It's a ten-euro cab ride from Centraal Station and forty euros directly to the airport. The rooms may seem small to American guests but for a European room, it was a good size. Our room was beautifully... More

Estherea does not have a "a la carte" restaurant. Only breakfast is served at the cafe. Strictly, that alone disqualifies it to be a 4 star. However it tries to make it up by offering free coffee and cookies. The bar is operated by a bartender who doubles up as the bell boy and the coffee machine technician. The gym... More

used this hotel for our one night stay over on the amsterdam mini cruise.second stay at this hotel and seemed better than last time. Delightful rooms and staff. bonus hot drinks and cakes served all day in the lobby. perfect location ,quiet yet not too far from the action. breakfast was lovely but rather expensive -not for us though as... I chose this hotel based on other reviews on tripadvisor. I had expected the rooms to be quite small from other info I'd read and it was but still fine. The decor in the hotel is very nice, the location is really handy. I had to contact the hotel before I visited and they were very quick to reply and... More

Our reservation had mistakenly been canceled by 800-Hotels. Thankfully the hotel had a room available and the front desk staff was very accommodating in helping us (it was actually less expensive to book directly with the hotel than what we had been initially charged by 800-Hotels). We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed our stay. The location is great... More

From the moment we checked in, we knew we made the right choice. The Hotel Estherea is lovely and the staff is wonderful. Our room faced the canal - very romantic. The room was beautifully decorated and much larger than we expected. The bathroom was huge and modern. The complimentary coffee/tea/sweets were a welcome indulgence at the end of the... More

We first stayed at the Estherea for three nights in July, after a decade-long hiatus. It was the first Amsterdam hotel we ever stayed in. We have stayed elsewhere on the half dozen trips we have made since that inaugural visit a decade ago, not because we were disappointed by the first visit, but because it always seems to be... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
