Before we even arrived we had problems. We were emailed to say unless they could pre authorise payment we would lose the room. They had already took our deposit so seemed strange they'd wait so long to authorise it. The stairs are a death trap. We were the top floor and fear of broken limbs was constant our stay. A... More

The guys that worked there were very sweet and I wouldn't say a bad word about them. Unfortunately being nice doesn't make a great hostel. It was very cramped, and half the time they weren't on reception so I felt a bit stuck wondering around trying to find someone to check out. The room I was in was for six... More

Not such a great location, over by the zoo. Have to take the tram to get anywhere. Was really cheap when I stayed, got what I paid for - beds seemed clean, but everything else could use a good scrub. Had lots of hot water. Rooms very basic, just bunkbeds and safes - which work! Very old hotel. Toast/juice/coffee/ceral for... More

This hostel was kind enough to say that 5 of us could stay for 2 nights at short notice. they forgot to mention in the email that the price would go up on the week end that we were there because there was a dance event on the we did not know about. so the price went from about 20... More

i stayed in a room with 4 beds and private bathroom. the room was small but ok. the stairs are hell horrible. they are so narrow and when someone walks it is really noisy, even wakes you up. the breakfast was ok with cereals, toast, cheese, jam and butter, coffee, juice. but the breakfast room is really small and it... First of all, the steps leading up to the room (we had the top floor private room) were very dangerous and so narrow it isn't funny. It's not fun carrying up luggage is all I can say. The shower and the toilet and sink were all on the same floor and the shower headed over the toilet so when you... More

We had a room on the top floor. The staircases are extremely narrow and small. It's fun trying to get up with ur backpack...even more fun trying to come down with it. The room was plain...but we're not there for how the rooms look. Had an en suite..so we had our own shower. It's all one...the sink...the shower and toilet. So... More

let me start off with a couple positive things. the older man there was very nice and helpful. they also served breakfast (toast and juice) which was convenient. now the bad. the younger guy (i think the son), was never on time, and he seemed very unfriendly. he was supposed to be downstairs in the morning at a certain time... Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
