First impression was not the best. Simple, old fashioned but confortable beds and linen. Hostel located next to the Central Train Station. About 15 minutes walk from the city center. Recommended for budget travellers and for those who do not mind to have a good walk to be in the city center.

Beds were clean and comfortable. Dorm room was quiet small but fortunately we had it to ourselves (three of us). I imagine It would be very cramped if all beds were taken. Good lockers for 1 euro/day inside the room. Good wi-fi and not a bad location, short walk/tram from the centre and train station. Bathroom facilities were less than... More

The hostel is expensive... If it was good at lease, ok... but no... for the price it is we could say it is horrible... We arrived in the middle of the night, were very badly received, nothing cordial and impolite was the reception, two of our friends had arrived previously and had arranged to pay in the morning the following... I was travelling alone and this hostel was at a great location. The stairs were terrible, though the guy at the reception helps carrying luggage. The staff was not rude at all. There is no common place but you can still meet people in your room. There is a bike rental place right beside the hostel, which was helpful. It... More

Before the trip I thought " it's not gonna be that bad, you will only sleep there " false! It was the worst place I have ever been. After taking one bath, the room was like a pool and it was dirty. The staff was ok to us but I could see some other guys being in trouble with them.... More

Small, dirt, stink. Impossible to climb stairs. It has relatively low costs, we only used the room for sleeping and washing, anything else is impossibile to do in here. I dont recommend at all to pay for this.

The very first thing to notice is the rude staff, I can't even say staff since there was only one guy not sympathetic at all who never was at the reception. We waited so long to do the check out and we almost lost the train. But the worse was the bathroom, so dirty and smelly, there was a flood... More

Super creepy place. I'd never feel so uncomfortable with the room as in the hostel. Room has got 2 x 3 meters square and 4 beds in it. I wouldn't mention about the fact that there was even no place to put your luggage on the floor and FORGET about space where you can put your phone, room card etc.... More

It's not very close to the dam square or to the leidseplein. The signs to find it are not very visible. Beds and rooms are ok (6 beds per room, with a private toilet/shower). Lots of floors so baggage must be only backpacks.

To explain death trap, a mixture of drugs and alcohol combined with the small, uneven, circular stairwell and living on the top (4th) floor is not a good combination. Rooms are dirty, bathrooms looked like that hasn't been cleaned in a few turn over of guests and needed serious renovation. We literally stayed out of the room as much as... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
