A nice family run hostel in a reasonably good location. The rooms were very compact and really hot. The shower and bathroom were clean. There wasn't enough lockers so bags had to be just left in the room, very trusting. The kitchen was nice but no separate common area. The staff were great though. Bike hire is reasonably priced. Overall... More

Location feels quite safe and only a short tram ride to the city centre & really close to tram stop. However not much to see in the local area. Reception is in a pharmacy next to the hostel and the staff are often busy and the desk is often shut quite early. Facilities were good and seemed generally clean but... More

Came back to the hostel on the last night to find the manager demanding we pay €280, even though we'd already paid for the hostel. He wouldn't let us in our room - where all our stuff was - unless we paid the money. We had no choice other than to pay this extra money; we had nowhere else to... More

Stayed in this hostile for three nights. They overcharged us, but we couldn't get a refund...it was disgustingly dirty... Beds were horrible... Some strangers feet are at your head! Just terrible unclean and people who were in charge were awful! Plus if you need wifi, don't come here! Had none!!!!!!!!!!!! Never again!!!

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay here! Firstly I would like to remind people that this is a HOSTEL, not a hotel. And for a hostel it was pretty good. There was a clean bed with provided linen to sleep in, toilets and showers that worked well and key card locked doors. They had just installed a kitchen... More

This place is a complete rip off. The reception desk is the counter of a convenience store and the building is 'under construction' which seems more like a lazy excuse to offer dirty, unfinished accommodation for insane prices. Use this hostel as an absolute last resort.

I stayed in a private 4 man room with 3 friends. I would recommend for people on a budget, obviously it's nothing luxury but it's clean, beds are comfy and there are lockers for 1 euro a night that I would highly recommend. Bathroom wasn't brilliant size wise but it was clean which is the most important factor. Walk to... More

I stayed at Centraal Hostel with five other friends in a 6 man private room. After reading a lot of reviews before booking we were all apprehensive as to what too expect, but due to the price, 12 euros a night per head, we decided to book it anyway. Upon arrival in Amsterdam it was very easy to get to,... More

I stayed at Hostel Centraal with three more friends in a 8 guest room (room number 1). I have to admit that I thought the location was going to be a little bit more central (around 20 minutes walking to the center or you can catch the trams which are 5 minutes away). The bed was clean (which for me... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
