We recently spent 3 nights at Ark16 for our anniversary. The accommodation was slightly basic, but had everything we needed for our stay. The location is fantastic, with a ten to fifteen minute walk the the centre of Amsterdam, and plenty of good restaurants and supermarkets within a five minute walk. Being a little way from the centre meant the... More

We stayed for the weekend and had a lovely relaxing time. The houseboat has everything you need for a short stay. The bed was comfy and good selection of breakfast goodies provided. The owner was away during our stay so we didn't have the benefit of her advice or help but managed to work out the heating and WiFi! The... More

Annette is an amazing host (with a great sense of humour) and my suite on the houseboat was incredible - it was the best decision to stay here. Annette went out of her way to help with whatever she could and my few days on her houseboat really made my trip. The fridge was stocked up with everything I could... More

First of all, Annette was a great host - proactive, welcoming, warm and humorous. She made sure that everything we needed was available, including things we didn't know we needed (breakfast in the fridge, picnic table out front, drawing materials for our daughter... in short; Anette was a perfect host. The houseboat itself is really lovely and perfect for at... More

My girlfriend & I were visiting Amsterdam between 25- 29 May this year, the main purpose of which was to see a couple of bands. We decided to make a week of it, and having stayed in a house boat on a previous visit, decided to book this place as we really loved the experience last time around. We were... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here with my two children (aged 13 and 18) for two nights, and can't rate it highly enough. Although it is fairly small, there was plenty of room for us all to sleep (the children stayed on the pullout sofa beds). It is within walking distance of all local amenities, and a short train journey... More

Amazing location in a super quiet neighborhood. The owner is cool. There are large windows witch allow childrens to play with the ducks that are ont the canal. We found a parking space (without pay and without fine). Bike hire and bus station are 5 min.

My husband and I stayed here for three days in November before we boarded for a cruise on the Danube River. I had wanted to experience living on a houseboat. The location is in the Jordan area and was walking distance to much that we wanted to see. It was a very unique experience to watch the swans swim past... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
