We just spent 3 nights in Amsterdam. This hotel is top of the line class and elegance. It is well located, away from the riff raff and close enough to walk to all. Very old world charm with big rooms and bathrooms and towels, etc. Lovely spa- pool, but we had no time to use any of it.

Loved this hotel, it's got a wow factor you don't get in many hotels Service was typical of good 5 star hotels, Only downside is it's a little too far away from the main attractions Only negative is maybe the price tag?

A 2 night stay during the hottest days of June, but no problem - aircondition was quick and cooled down the room as the sun tried to melt the windows. I booked a city view room and got a channel view one. Thanks. Stunning view! Lunch on the terrace - really good. A very comfortable hotel to stay in. Service... More

This is a top class hotel with good meeting room and conference facilities. There is a swimming pool and fitness room in the basement overlooking the canal where you can help yourself to snacks and read magasines. Overall the hotel is exquisitely decorated with tremendous refinement and taste - it is truly a magnificent hotel in all respects. The bed... More

I can not fault this experience. The staff were friendly and professional and did everything possible to make the stay special. The view of the water is a plus. The quality of the food was first class. The location is not central but it is possible to walk to central areas if you are not pushed for time. No rooms... More

This is a great hotel. The first time that I stayed here I got upgraded, but even the ordinary rooms are lovely - stunning views over the canals. Staff very friendly, good food and accommodating re snacks at odd times of day. However it is very expensive. There seems to be little middle ground in Amsterdam hotels, nice, but very... More

We have stayed in various InterContinental hotels over the years, but the Amstel in Amsterdam is by far superior to all. Even with ongoing area construction along the river, the view was spectacular. The amenities and service by the staff of the hotel were first rate, And we were upgraded to a suite due to an oversight by the hotel... More

The Amstel may be a very grand and historic hotel. With its stucco exteriors and gilded interiors, one may assume its service to be exemplary. But it was not to be. I was booked at the Penthouse Suite, which promised a 24 hour room service, which is a fairy tale. Although the room was ornate and luxurious as promised, it... More

I like the InterContinental chain, but the properties, especially in Europe, are inconsistent. A problem to be aware of if you have not visited Amsterdam is that there is very little middle ground for hotels. The hotels tend to be either nice but extremely expensive or affordable and not so nice. I thought the Amstel was very nice, but would... More
