We spent six nights at the InterContinental Amstel, our first stop on a four-city vacation. Conveniently situated on the Amstel River with beautiful water views and easy access to tram lines, the Hotel exudes classic style. Our room (an Executive, with River view) was truly spacious and very well equipped. Although we didn't have an opportunity to dine at the... More

The suite was very well appointed and the concierge staff impeccable. We were here for the week and our stay was wonderful! The ceilings in our room were extremely high and the AC was quiet and worked wonderfully! Having been fortunate to stay at the Amstel several times in the last few years, our arrival this time was like stepping into very comfortable slippers. As always, the service is exceptional at every level, and despite being fully booked and very busy, we were made to feel welcome and valued guests. The location is slightly away from the centre... I can think of 10 reasons to like the Amsterdam Intercontinental. The opening windows. The riverside [Amstel] rooms. The bowl of fruit. The two minute walk to Weesperplein Metro station. The room decor. Wallpaper matches bedspread and pillows. The space. Bathroom fabulous. Lights fantastic - one switch to rule them all. Airconditioner, safe and coffee machine all work. Great staff.... More

On our last day in Amsterdam we had booked a Royal Afternoon tea for our group of four. We were treated to a wonderful afternoon tea, entree, sandwiches, a warm course and four different types of teas. The service by the trainee was impeccable and she was knowledgeable and chatty and it was a very enjoyable two hours.

To understand how luxury it is, I have to say that when I arriving at the entrance of hotel, Mr Paul McCartney was leaving to get his car and to depart to Rotterdam for his big show in Rotterdam after 20 years without any gig in the city. Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
