One of the finest places to stay in Europe! Beautiful with wonderful food. Great public transportation, but walk as much as you can. The food, the staff and the decor is stunning! There are two restaurants and they are both excellent! If it is too much of a cost to stay here for you, at least stop by for a... More

The hotel is simply classic and beautiful. Intercontinental did very well in maintaining the classic interior and even the lift looks like those you saw in oldies movies. I find it amusing to be in the lift but rather creepy as well at night with the dark wooden interior. The room is very classic as well. I dislike the bed... More

We spent six nights at the InterContinental Amstel, our first stop on a four-city vacation. Conveniently situated on the Amstel River with beautiful water views and easy access to tram lines, the Hotel exudes classic style. Our room (an Executive, with River view) was truly spacious and very well equipped. Although we didn't have an opportunity to dine at the... More

Having been fortunate to stay at the Amstel several times in the last few years, our arrival this time was like stepping into very comfortable slippers. As always, the service is exceptional at every level, and despite being fully booked and very busy, we were made to feel welcome and valued guests. The location is slightly away from the centre... I can think of 10 reasons to like the Amsterdam Intercontinental. The opening windows. The riverside [Amstel] rooms. The bowl of fruit. The two minute walk to Weesperplein Metro station. The room decor. Wallpaper matches bedspread and pillows. The space. Bathroom fabulous. Lights fantastic - one switch to rule them all. Airconditioner, safe and coffee machine all work. Great staff.... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
