Some hotels - you don't need to ask what star rating they are. This is one of them. The hotel oozes class and charisma, and the staff here are uber-polite and helpful. As for the rooms - they take your breath away. Booked King executive, upgraded to Corner King Executive with Canal View. The room was massive and historically decorated... More

We had the joy of spending three nights at this wonderful, welcoming hotel. Our room was well-appointed and looked out on the Amstel River and all the activity there. The hotel is located within walking distance of the famous Museum Square (an easy and scenic 20 minute walk). We found the walk back and forth very refreshing, and we spent... More

If you happen to visit Amsterdam, the Intercontinental Amstel is a great hotel to stay at. The central location, the waterfront, great rooms, service like a luxury hotel can is all part of it. We stayed only two days here, but as a frequent traveller we got upgrade to a great corner suite, with views over the Amstel River. The... More

The IC Amstel is positioned right on the river Amstel just south-east of the city centre. The area is beautiful (one of our favourites in Amsterdam) and all the main sights of Amsterdam should be walkable for most people. The hotel sits in a building from the late 1800's and while the beautiful architecture has been preserved (inside and out)... More

Excellent classic hotel. On the river dining. Very helpful staff. A very pleasant stay. The room we had was of ample size with good amenities. The brasserie restaurant dinner service was quite slow however. Perhaps too much for them. The smoked salmon app. was very good. The skate was excellent, but we would not recommend the rack of lamb. All... More

What a wonderful hotel, keeps the traditional grand hotel architecture and adds modern ameninites. The staff is well trained and attentive to all your needs. We had a great river view room and were able to get an upgrade. The restaurants are very good as are the bars. Tip try the "special tea" need to order 24 hours in advance.

Don't be misled by the traditional exterior. What's inside is incredibly luxurious, and the price reflects that. Located on the picturesque Amstel River, the hotel is surrounded by Amsterdam's many tourist attractions, with a helpful concierge to arrange for tours, tickets, and transportation, and a Michelin-starred restaurant (La Rive), reviewed separately. We'll happily arrange to stay here on our next... More

We stayed at the Amstel intercontinental after a cruise for one day. The staff were excellent and tried to accommodate at every turn. We arrived to the hotel at 9 am. Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
