This was my third time at the Amstel Hotel and I am not really planning to come back after 3 times being disappointed. My first time was in 2008 at that time I was a Royal Ambassador and the room was dirty beyond believe dirty carpets all over stains shower not working and bad food in the restaurant and bad... More

Just a one nighter as we had intercontinental points to use. All staff were perfectly polite and happy. Ate lunch there, was reasonably priced, good amount, and tasty. Room was very clean and had a huge bed, which was insanely comfortable. TV sound played in the bathroom which was a bit peculiar, but good if you want to listen to... More

The attention to detail and desire to meet every guest's needs is unparalleled. The room amenities are complete (full toiletries, minibar including bottles of vodka, gin, and other liquors, coffee maker), there's an audio center with a docking station (we couldn't get the HDMI to work, but it was not through lack of effort on the staff), the bed is... Glad to call this place home for 4 days. Waking up to the view of the canal was priceless. It was quiet and peaceful. The room is acceptable in size, cosy and neat. The hotel staffs are very friendly and attentive. We felt welcoming immediately upon arrival. Right next to the glamorous swiming pool is the petit gym which has... More

Stayed for three nights over a weekend with my wife. As an Intercontinental Ambassador benefit got to check in early at 12 noon and check out at 4pm - used both options. We chose a Junior suite which was spacious and had Amstel river view and street view. Worth a few extra Euros if you can afford it. Room had... More

Absolutely stunning place to stay, a little way out of the city center. Great place to easily walk or tram to the sights of Amsterdam. Historic hotel that has been well maintained in its original form. One of the more expensive hotels to stay in but lovely nonetheless.

Very disappointing I really hate writing a bad review about any Intercontinental as is in my view the best of any Hotels around but my expectations probably where too high..but many problems a 5 star Hotel shouldn’t have. Check-in was cumbersome and cold , no smiles no happiness just business it’s all about minimizing costs and maximizing profits , IHG... More

Although this is hotel is a historic building, the condition is well renovated. This time, I got upgraded to a junior suite due to platinum member. The room is spacious for european standard. The room overlooking the great canal. In the afternoon, the sunshine make the room so heart worming in the freezing cold winter. Close to Metro station.

The Amstel Hotel is one of the most famous hotels in town, and rightly so. The views are great, so are the bar and breakfasts. Old fashioned and classy, the location is ideal and the beds are very comfortable. Expensive but and absolute must if you have the money and you're coming to Amsterdam.

AMSTEL HOTEL The InterContinental Amstel Hotel Amsterdam is for me one of the best hotels in the Netherlands. From the very moment you arrive the service is superb, from the doormen, the reception team and all the back office team members that I had communications with, they are all Marvelous. The very best and most professional section is the team... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
