It's cheap but perhaps not so cheerful. The staff was friendly although slightly annoying how you have to go through the gift shop and wait outside till he lets you in during the night. The rooms were very plain but very spacious, not particularly dirty from what I can remember. Overall if you are on a very tight budget and... More

Enter at own risk. Booked 2 double rooms for €85 per room per night, got 1 room where 4 adults were expected to sleep, 2 on a mattress on the floor. Overpowering smell of camphor meant the two and the mattress were better off sleeping in the "kitchen". Charged €170 per night, refused and paid €85. Left before the 2nd... More

DO NOT GO HERE! This Hotel was very poor. Tiles off the bathroom wall, dirty toilet, 2 half toilet rolls not full ones, shower curtain stained, power of shower water poor. Room was large but bed was broken - slats falling off when turning in bed and we are not large people. If it was not for location we would... More

After reading all the reviews I must say I was very worried about staying here. Well a I read them I did take two blankets with me. Yes the covers aren't clean however the price i can't really moan it was the cheapest place to stay and tbh on a low budget it's ok. I would say take some sleeping... More

When one commits to a hostel/ hotel, there is a certain feeling of hope that what you've payed for is what you're going to get. We were not expecting a great deal from Ohmkar guesthouse based on a few previous reviews but what we found left us asking what had we done to deserve this. We depressingly concluded that this... Apartment was filthy. Bird poo on bed and carpet that hadn't been cleaned. Bong in corner with fould smelling liquid still in it. Dirty plates in corner that were left from previous guests. Lots of mould on shower curtains and bathroom was generally unclean. Cigarette burns and stains all over chairs and carpet. Carpet and couch felt dirty and unvacumed.... More

This hotel was really dirty, and much too expensive considering how unclean it was (hairs, mould, toilet not cleaned) . We could not stay here and asked for our money back. The only good thing is the location. I would definitely advise against booking this hotel.

130 a night for this poor excuse of a room was way too much when I was able to find hotels nearby for just 30-40 euros more. We found stains on the sheets and after much discussion the owner reluctantly agreed to change them. The carpet felt dirty and we weren't even comfortable enough to walk around the room without... when we got to Amsterdam the first thing we did was go to the guest house to drop off our bags. we located the guest house (its above a gift shop, you have to walk in through the shop to get to the stairs). we asked about our reservation, and the guy told us the room would be ready in... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
