I can see that this hotel may not be for everyone, but for my wife & I it was fantastic. Welcome drinks, awesome room, comfy bed. The service was great, a very chilled atmosphere. Breakfast was lovely- pancakes, eggs & some interesting DIY tea bags :) It's not your typical hotel as their website says so if you're looking for... More

This is a central hotel in Amsterdam. Quirky rooms. Cheap breakfast. Included minibar. Good location. Friendly helpful staff. The hotel has an interesting history which we also liked. We would definitely stay here again next time we come to Amsterdam.

Can't say enough good things about this fantastic find of a hotel. Excellent location, so so close to the train station and all the trams, walkable everywhere in the city. Great restaurants close by. The view from room 32 was perfect overlooking the canal. 42 stairs up were not that bad as long as you have average mobility. Knee issues... More

Great little hotel with quirky rooms. We had room 31 which had a great hanging chair. The welcome drinks in the mini-bar were a great start. Breakfast very good value at €5 each. Continental spread with eggs and pancakes made to order. The honesty bar was great for a beer or wine from the fridge after a full day sight... More

My wife and I would like to thank Barry & Marcel for a wonderful stay. They are your personal concierge, personal breakfast chefs, and personal tour guides. Anytime we had questions, needed directions/maps, or a recommendation they were always available. The location is absolutely perfect, right in the heart of Amsterdam. Since this is not a "big box" chain hotel,... More

Needed a good place to rest near the central station after a long flight. Mauro mansion is only a 5 min walk away from the Station and easy to located. My train from airport was delayed and I made it to their reception right before 9pm(they also have slight flexibility on this if you let them know in advance). Breakfast... More

The photos on Trip Advisor of its uniquely decorated rooms gave me the guts to book this place and I'm sure glad I did! Everything was perfect!! 💋 Hotel is 5mins from Amsterdam Centraal train station and walking distance from the main sites you wanna see (museums, etc). The staff were great also, always willing to help and were perfectly... More

I picked Mauro because I wanted to stay in a historic Amsterdam building on a canal that simple and stylish. We really appreciated Barry's soft-spoken, welcoming spirit and were impressed by the excellent breakfast at the hotel. Barry gave us detailed parking advice and showed us where to rent bicycles. Also, we were on the first floor and I assumed... More

My wife and I stayed here on the last few nights of our honeymoon and we loved this apartment! The room was cosy, bed super comfy, shower nice and hot, hotel staff really helpful and nice, and location excellent. The mini bar even came stocked with a few drinks that were on the house, which was a nice gesture. Our... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
