Just came back from a long weekend in Amsterdam where we stayed at Anno 1685 - We were met by the cleaner who seemed in a hurry to get away and gave us a speedy introduction to the premises. We didn't get a chance to ask about the WIFI or Heating and had to contact the owner. The apartment is... More

Pros: Great location, lovely small garden on the back, quiet clean! Cons: the apartment is really small and slightly bellow the street level, the owner lives on the top floor and we could hear her steps very clearly (even her cat steps), bed sheets got some suspicious stains, old towels, old furniture. It feels like a cheap place but it... More

Myself & my partner have just returned from a 4 night stay over New Years, in Anno 1685. This was not our first time to visit Amsterdam nor the first time using a holiday rental and I'm afraid Anno 1685 is not somewhere I could recommend to anybody. We were met not by the owner but by the cleaner who... More

Very overpriced for what it was. Great location but the interiors in need of updating. The presence of chipped crockery, old towels, a dirty kettle & small holes in the sheets were disappointing. Unfortunate musty smell throughout the house. Great location but overpriced compared to other accommodation we've stayed at in Amsterdam.

Our family of four stayed in this apartment for 6 nights in July. Having lived in Amsterdam for four years previously, we knew we wanted to stay in the center of the city when we visited (our first trip back!) as a family. This apartment is perfectly central, but set on a lovely smaller canal between two of the more... More

Good value and great location. The flat is very cute and spacious with a lovely little courtyard. It is very silent even though you're in the heart of the Jordaan. It is also very comfortable because it's on the ground level and was great not to do the typical steep and narrow Dutch staircases. We visited the first week in... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our five days in Amsterdam and it was delightful to come home to our little haven and relax. The apartment was bright and homely, lots of travel books, precious space to sit outside when it was warm enough, a cosy little bathroom, comfy bed and all the kitchen things necessary to eat at home if we wished.... We were looking forward to staying here in September but due circumstances beyond our control (work mostly) we had to cancel. Please take note that we DID NOT stay here. We had sent a deposit of close to 500 euros to Anke with the remainder due upon our arrival. Even though her cancellation policy clearly states that there will be... More

One time and never ever again. The house is O.K. Besides one point. ANKE... I was very surprised, because other reviews about the owner where all positive. But the lady is not very friendly. Attention. please ask Anke before you arrive how to proceed, because after we arrived she was very, very unfriendly!!!! The first word: you are too late.... More

I am a wholly deaf solo traveller. During June 2011, I rented a large studio apartment on the ground floor at Anno 1685, Amsterdam for 5 nights. I met the friendly Anno 1685 owner Anke outside Anno 1685 at 16:00 hours as arranged. She showed me around it – she treated me with respect. She told me if I would... More

Staying in Canal Ring (Grachtengordel)

Neighborhood Profile
Canal Ring (Grachtengordel)
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is as historically significant as it is perennially popular. Whether you’re a history buff, architecture enthusiast, shutterbug, or fashionista, odds are you’ll find the Amsterdam you're looking for while roaming around the Grachtengordel (Canal Ring). A brilliant place to get lost in a moody meander and a key component to any sightseeing trip to Amsterdam, this area's major draws include the Anne Frank House, the Bloemenmarkt floating flower market, an enviable assortment of independent boutiques along De Negen Straatjes, and of course all of Grachtengordel’s lovely canals and bridges.
