We stayed here just for 1 night, and just loved the athmosphere. Yes, it is a little bit neglected : shower was a bit leaking, the gold colour of the bath tap is coming off slightly, and there's no airconditioning. But those details all don't matter if the overall feeling of friendly luxury is still there. Great breakfast: the room... More

I booked this hotel to visit the MotoGP in Assen. Motorcycle parking is on the street in front of the hotel. The room was in the attic and I was impressed. The stairs would have failed Health & safety in the UK, but I loved the room. Shabby chic in style. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the... More

This hotel is in a good location if you want to be in the central area where the shops restaurants and bars are. It can be noisey at night though so bring earplugs! I stayed in room 9 which was lovely, very spacious with a super jacuzzi bath. The stairs up to it though are seriously steep and with very... More

I think Idiosyncratic is the best adjective to describe this hotel. It is an ancient house in the middle of the city, providing a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. The restaurants and tea room are first-rate, and the premises includes a bakery so the bread is always fresh and tasty. The whole atmosphere is homely and welcoming, and everything... More

Very charming building right in the heart of Groningen with beautiful garden and dining rooms. This could really be a great place if it was not let down so much by its standards. Our room (no. 20) could only be reached by going op three small narrow stairs and was very small. The bed was much too narrow for 2... More

Right in the centre of Groningen, with lovely and huge ground floor lounges and courtyard spaces, lies the classical Schimmelpenninck huys hotel. We booked through booking.com, and paid only 80 euros for room + breakfast. That is a bargain for sure. The room (35) is lovely, very classical, quite spacious, huge and comfortable bathroom, good beds, small fridge, tv... The... More

The hotel is an old charming hotel (French style), made from several contiguous old buildings. Centrally located only a 2 minutes walk from the town hall. It also has a Restaurant in the ground floor and the entrance is through the same door and corridor. The rooms are a bit old and need to be refurbished (but in that case... More

Charming hotel sutiated in old historical building, absolutely central located and ideal for shopping, sightseeing. Lot of nice restaurant around and night bars, perfect to come back after long day shopping, rest and continue... We had a very nice room with huge jacuzzi and great view to the roof of the city. One big No - there is not lift... More

The hotel is located at a very noisy street. The hotel is old and shabby. The staff is not very friendly. When sitting outside for a drink, you can better order and collect the drinks yourself inside, staff is not very service minded.once was more than enough.

We spent 2 nights here while touring north Holland. I asked for a room with a balcony and we found ourselves being shown to a room at the rear of the property in a wooden built annex. There were several steep and spiral stair cases to conquer and when I asked for some help with our (many) cases I was... More
