We didn't book but were made welcome anyway despite it looking busy. We didn't have to queue at the bar as the drinks were brought to us. The food was served quickly, hot and with clean plates and cutlery. The desert was little expensive but as the kids had kids meals their ice cream was free which ended up making... More

Was staying at a B&B close to this pub. On both nights we had a lovely meal. Lots to choose from the menu and the meals we had was excellent on both occasion. Managed to fit us in both nights since we had not booked. Also a dog friendly pub.

Stayed here with a couple of mates on an Enduro weekend, in the attached bunk Barns. To be fair, it was a busy weekend for them, but the service was very average (you got the feeling of being tolerated rather than welcomed with a smile) Food was of a reasonable standard, decent portions and fairly quick. One of the biggest... More

Called for midweek lunch on a recommendation and not disappointed the food amazing staff helpful. I had a fishermans platter stunning and my husband opted for BBQ chicken he said best he's ever had. Dessert was a strawberry meringue to share as it was rather a large portion for one not complaining though. Will defo be back.

We stayed one night in freezing December and were warmly welcomed by the very attentive staff. The food is first class and the range of Ales really good. We stayed in the Bunkhouse which was very clean and warm, the only slight niggle is the male toilet block although in the same building is a bit awkward to get to... More

Although it is off the beaten track, we met friends here as it sits equidistant for us all. We had a warm, friendly welcome, the menu is extensive and included a selection of Sunday roast dinners. Child sized portions are available. The food was plentiful and very good. The service provided by the young staff could not be faulted, they... More

Not suitable for large groups. The unhelpful, rude staff gave us grief throughout our entire weekend. The accommodation was pretty substandard for the price. There are numerous better barns, hostels and huts all over the country go to them not here. Toilets need a good clean, latch is broken on room 2, kitchen lacks basics and the heating doesn't work.... I am so sorry your experience of staying in the bunk barns at The Royal Oak was not what you expected. We welcome large groups and do our very best to offer great service. I can only apologise if this did not seem the case. I will review the situation with the staff that were serving and working that weekend More

This place is generally good, but is severally let down by rude and difficult staff! This a real shame! From a 'group' perspective, this place is really not suitable. The staff clearly aren't experienced in this area and the communal areas in the building are woefully small. On the plus it was cleaned to a reasonable standard, was sensibly priced... More

My partner and I visited for lunch on the back of the good reviews here. The greeting was warm and friendly and the service attentive, without being obtrusive. The restaurant was busy, even for a Wednesday lunchtime, which is a good sign. The portions are very generous and my huge T Bone steak was cooked to perfection. My partner had... More

We recently met two friends for Sunday lunch, we came here because of the excellent reviews. After a long drive we were given a very warm welcome and even though we were a little early, our table was reserved and ready for us. It was obvious this is a very popular pub as it was very busy and noisy (in... More
