We were assigned a two-room corner suite with balcony, overlooking mountain peaks. Comfortable furniture, could open windows to let in cool night air as it was unusually hot and no AC. Nice big bathroom with jacuzzi tub with temperature gauge. Plentiful breakfast, large heated indoor pool which was beautifully decorated, nice outdoor bar. Lunch on our balcony with food purchased... I remember going through a bunch of TripAdvisor reviews before booking a hotel in Zermatt, and I wasn't sure if Hotel Alex would be too eccentric for our family of 5. We made absolutely the right call staying there because we loved it. First, it's location is excellent, just a quick dash to the train station, an excellent bakery, and... More

Stayed there for a few nights off-season. The hotel is built and maintained in a wonderful old-fashioned style typical to Zermatt. It is two minutes away from the station, right at the center of the town. The service was excellent and very friendly. Receptionists were very helpful in planning our itineraries. The hotel features an unbelievable swimming pool (more like... More

Hotel Alex is a 10 minute walk from the train station and just off the main street of shops and restaurants. Rooms are uneven in size and location - try to reserve one with a balcony overlooking the Matterhorn. Hotel staff was friendly and efficient. Room was comfortable and clean, though the decor, with a wood-carved ceiling and purple and... More

This hotel has much to recommend it: the traditional chalet style architecture and furnishings, the location close to the station, mountain railway and village centre (but sufficiently distant to avoid disturbance from the hordes of visitors thronging the main street), the welcoming, helpful staff and the quality of the food prepared by the long-serving chef. And then there are the... More

If you like a hotel crammed with character, you will love this hotel. Our room had a nice view and was well equipped with a separate sitting area and skylights. The room had carved walls and ceilings and some walls were covered in fabric. There was no air-conditioning and the weather was very hot so it was essential to keep... More

A most charming hotel off the Main Street of Zermatt. We were in the main building, and the view of the mountains was fantastic! It was quite refreshing to be in a town with little traffic: only the electric taxis, which could be a little dangerous!

Zermatt being the fun village sitting at the base of the beautiful Matterhorn it would be difficult to not be happy anywhere I think. Having said that Hotel Alex is wonderful. The restaurant is on the lower level and has marvelous food and decor. The main floor is full of small nooks and cranny areas for seating and hanging out.... More

This five story charmer just around the corner from the train station is chock full of carved wood ceilings, plush furniture, artsy stained glass, and shiny brass. Every nook and cranny has been filled with wondrous things, giving it a slightly eccentric Victorian feeling. Our large room on the fifth floor had a corner fireplace, balcony, jacuzzi tub, and thick... More
