We spent a week skiing and enjoying Zermatt and Matthiol was perfect in every respect: - The rooms are spacious, modern and very comfortable. We had a suite, which was perfect for 4 of us - my wife and I had a private bedroom, while the kids shared a pullout couch in a large living room, everybody was very happy.... More

My husband, two sons (9 and 13), and I recently spent 10 days in Switzerland visiting our daughter, who is an exchange student. The night we spent in Zermatt at Hotel Matthiol was one of the highlights of our trip. The fact that it is located in a quiet area instead of the center of town is a huge plus... More

Our stay at the Matthiol Hotel was excellent. We have three children (6, 10 and 13). The staff was extremely helpful from the moment we walked in the doors of this beautiful hotel. A few minutes after calling from the train station, the electric car (only cars in Zermatt) arrived to take us to the hotel. Our room was very... More

I absolutely loved Hotel Matthiol, which I first read about in the T&L article "The New Generation of European Inns." This was our first trip to Zermatt but I can't imagine staying anywhere else. Highlights - very comfortable beds, big bathtub for relaxing after skiing, large, well furnished rooms, wonderful breakfast buffet including the option to order pancakes or eggs... More

The restaurant – and hotel – is out of the centre of the village of Zermatt. You need to climb a little bit. If it is cold and icy, you better take a taxi and eventually come back by feet. The reception and service are good. Kitchen amply above the average. A good wine list at reasonable prices. Service is... More

We have just returned from a short stay at The Matthiol. This is my second visit and it was even better than last time. The setting was beautiful due to vast amounts of snow everywhere with perfect blue skies. I booked us into a Junior Suite as a treat and on arrival we were upgraded to the Master Suite. Wow.... More

Love the Matthiol. We booked the Hotel Matthiol for a quick trip to ski the alps in Zermatt and we are so glad we ended up staying here. It is warm, friendly, inviting and by far the best customer service I have ever experienced anywhere. Hands down. A few things to note about this wonderful hotel: -As others have mentioned,... More

My husband and I stayed at the Matthiol for 6 days during our get away to Zermatt. Sarah, the manager of the hotel, was extremely responsive to our email queries about the room and we ended up with an amazing suite which had a (albeit a little hidden) view of the wonderous Matterhorn. Zermatt is just so magical that it... More

Stopped here during a 4 day drive around Switzerland, starting in Zurich, passing through Lucerne, and ending up in Zermatt before heading back to Zurich. The stop at the Matthiol was planned to coincide with the eve of my birthday and what a great decision that was. This hotel strikes the perfect balance between low-key luxury and coziness. You feel... More
