We stayed with our NZ friends for one night in the Tourist Hotel in Meiringen and found this a well run establishment (accommodation and restaurant). The rooms are lovely and clean, the food was excellent and the interaction with the staff good. We liked the lovely showers and beds and had no trouble sleeping despite of the proximity of the... We spent 10 days there. On the first night the owner asked us what the kids liked to eat and he would accommodate them as best as possible. This he did and the food was excellent. If one or other kid didn't like the main course they would be furnished with sausages or an omelette. Didn't like the pudding, no... More

I have been passing the Hotel Tourist on trips to Meiringen for a number of years and even eaten there so this year we decided to go and stay there as it has always interested me. We were very happy with our visit here this summer. We stayed for ten nights on a half board basis which offered great value... More

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights during a touring holiday of Germany and Switzerland. The owner and Heidi, the waitress/ bar person, could not have done more for us and made our children feel very welcome. They always had time to talk to us and were keen to share information about the local area. Our family room was... More

We were a group of 8 people and booked two 4-bed-rooms (one with shared bathroom and one with private bathroom). This family hotel is simple but nice, it has all you need for a short stay. The breakfast is great and included in the room rate. In general, the price is very reasonable for Switzerland (50CHF/person in the room with... More

Listen, it ain't the Ritz. I'm not inferring these are deluxe accommodations by any means. If you're looking for luxury and willing to shill out the bucks, I'd recommend Grindelwald over Meiringen. However, if it's budget accommodations you're looking for, you can do no better. I have been staying at Hotel Tourist for over thirty years. THIRTY YEARS, PEOPLE. It... More

We stayed here for 2 nights. The room we were given was small but well furnished with wardrobes, table, pair of chairs and TV. Meiringen's weather was too cold and damp for our liking. So returning to the room with a heater was a bliss. Although sufficiently furnished, the bathroom was very smaller - the only downside. And this was... More

Simple accommodation in a beautiful location. Do not be put off by the website. Rooms are quite small but spotless. Breakfast simple - cereal, juice, wonderful bread. We ate one night at their "Asian weekend" - really superb food - well presented. Martin, the owner, has excellent English and always has plenty of time for you. Good off road car... More

The Hotel Tourist is a good example of a very tired hotel in rural Switzerland. It has not seen any mayor refurbishment since te 60's, or at least so it seems. The shower/toilet is very small and is basically a plastic box with novilon wallpaper. Nevertheless the rooms are clean, the owner friendly and the breakfast not bad.

This hotel run by Martin Schläppi is a nice place to stay while visting the Aare gorge, the Reichenbach falls made famous by Sherlock Holmes, the tennis center, the open-air swimming pool and the bottom station of the Meiringen-Hasliberg railway. The Halsiberg ski gondola is only 2 minutes by car which makes this a great place to stay. The rooms... More
