I would only recommend staying here if you are working or visiting one of the UN orgs. It is a very short walk to WHO and buses to the city center. Cons: - paper-thin walls (you'll hear everything happening in adjacent rooms) - unreliable internet connection - poorly ventilated bathrooms - kitchen staff only speak French, so it can be... More

Stayed here for two weeks, got a room with attached bathrooms, other rooms without attached bathrooms were cheaper. My office was UN, to the walk to UN office from here was very pleasant. Free breakfast was okay, very average, but since it was free, no complaints. Dinner food was very good, the cook, one lady I forget her name makes... More

When you stay here, you get rooms with the bare minimum. No shampoo or shower gel in the bathroom (if you are lucky enough to get a room with it's own bathroom). The breakfast quality has deteriorated further since my last stay. No more croissants during the week. Impossible to get breakfast before 8 AM on a Sunday. Nobody cares... More

This place may need a bit of refurbishing as the rooms are pretty modest, but I wasn't bothered as it has a special character and it is clean. I only wish the internet was faster as in the evening you can't really use it. But, we were on a full board and the food here is really delicious! The breakfast... More

The staff is competent, very friendly and attentive to guests' needs. The food is excellent, prepared by real cooks. In the building are a large reception area and a lounge on the lower level, which provides an ideal common space for meeting people who come to Geneva from the four corners of the globe. During my stays at John Knox,... More

Basic but functional. I stayed in one of the studio apartments for two months while looking for somewhere to live. It is within easy walking distance of WHO, UNAIDS, ILO etc and the closest bus stop is no8 which will take you into town. The shortcut from the bus stop is isolated in the dark and not well lit, so... More

It should be unsurprising that a center named after John Knox should be as austere as any monkish cell. Nestled in the hills above the diplomatic quarter, this residence hall is really more of a college dorm than anything else. I expected as much and was not disappointed. I was in Geneva doing research at the UN so monastic accomadation... More

I had to stay here for a week with several colleagues. When I first arrived, there were ants all over my room, the same for another room my colleague was in. We both moved to another room, and fortunately for me, the 2nd room didn't have ants, but my colleague's second room did (she had to get bug spray to... More

The John Knox Centre offers hostel-like food and accommodation at very reasonable prices. For those of a certain age - like me - the place is evocative of noble causes (the Peace Corps, anti-apartheid movement) and rotten architecture. It comprises a two storey main block and a smaller separate one designed in the style known as 60's brutalism. Look for... More
