We decided to stay in Bern on a recent trip, started walking from the train station and found this hotel. They had a room available and at 10 am let us check in. Large room, very clean. Beautiful 100 year old elevator that was available. Breakfast was included and was very nice as well.

Looking at the hotel prices in Bern, the National seems not cheap but more reasonable: 110 Euro per night single room. You get very basic facilities for this price.
