When I was told that a meeting would be held in Basel during a heatwave at this older hotel, I thought, "Oh no…" Air conditioning is not typical here in Switzerland and we were experiencing extreme temperatures of 100+ degrees Farenheit. I prepared myself for the worst. Now, it's true: The location offers lovely views of the Rhein, but it's... More

The only reason I give this hotel a 4 is the amount of noise all night long outside. European hotels don't have airco, which is fine by me, but then the windows need to be open. Kids were out with their Beats booming and the trams crossed the bridge until the wee hours of the morning. The beds were comfy,... More

Only a one night stop on our tour, easy to get to with underground car park, chargeable. But ideal for one night as everything within walking distance. It was very warm, and the room didn't have air conditioning though plenty of windows and a small fan, ok for one night. Breakfast was good with very pleasant staff, and the reception... More

It was hot in Basel (100oF+); the hotel has no aircondition, no cross ventilation. When I asked if there was another (cooler) room available, despite many vacancies (the hotel was one-third full), this request was refused flat out. I offered to pay the difference, but no. The street side of the hotel faces a night-cafe (open until 4:00am in the... More

I stayed in this hotel in one of the busy week whilst working in Basel. So I could not get in my usual hotel. I was given a tiny room which was in line with a two star hotel - I remember i was not happy at the time. The hotel have a fantastic view on the river though but... More

The hotel staff was very gracious and helpful and the breakfast was quite good offering both hot and continental fare. While our room was nicely appointed there was NO AIR CONDITIONING! July in Basel can get quite hot - it was a balmy 97 degrees when we were here. While this hotel is in one of the best locations in... More

We stayed at this lovely hotel for 3 days.the hotel is perfectly situated for getting around the city centre; a stone's throw from old city, literally on the river where you can go for a walk easily (a must do) and bus and tram stops close by. Nice, friendly staff, clean room and free all the soft drinks from the... More

This hotel is definitely overrated. It's hard to imagine that a 4* hotel can offer accommodation without aircondition nowadays! Everything you can get is a small ventillator in the room. I was staying there in May with approx. 18 degrees outside but can't imagine to sleep there in the Summer! Breakfast is ok, however nothing really special. The only good... More

the hotel is located at the banks of the rhine - so you really need to have a room with view. the rooms are small, with free softdrink- minibar, and coffee station. i did not try the breakfast - as it was very expensive and actually smelled bad, so i went to nearby cafes instead.
