The stay was very relaxing. The bed was typical italian bed; not extremely comfortable but certianly not uncomfortable. Letizia was a very nice host, and provided a nice Italian continental breakfast with a few home made jellies that were very unique and tasty, as was her daily fresh bread. The cooking class was unique, typical to the region and personal,... More

Took a cooking class with Letizia. What a wonderful place. The class was so much fun. The food delish and the grounds just breath taking. Would love to do it again. Letizia made us feel so welcome. We spent the entire day talking, cooking, eating and drinking wine.

I had high hopes of this course after googling it and booking and I was most certainly not disappointed. Letizia is a very welcoming, charming and informative teacher with a passion for using local, seasonal produce in a way that enhances the natural flavours without too much messing around. I attended the course with a relative and a lovely couple... More

This beautiful restored farm house over looking Umbrian slopes high above the ancient city of Assisi is a wonderful retreat and it's hostess is an amazing energetic woman of many talents. Alla Madonna is noit fancy or luxurious but a comfortable, rustic welcoming place with fantastic views. Letizia, the proprietress , also holds cooking classes and in conjunction with her... More

I can not begin to say enough about our truly wonderful stay at Alla Madonna del Piatto B&B in the hills above Assisi. Our host Letizia Mattiacci was charming and delightful as was her husband Ruurd. The room was clean and well furnished with breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and Assisi. We took a cooking class with Letizia which... More

As 4 girls in Assisi for a language course, we wanted to experience italian cooking in an authentic setting. We found it with Letizia! She is brimming with warmth and enthusiasm. We spent a wonderful day in her kitchen cooking, observing, laughing and ofcourse eating far too much wonderful food! Highly recommend!

This is our third stay at Alla Madonna Del Piatto and it never disappoints. Our first two trips were in the main B&B where the rooms were very clean and comfortable and the breakfast always fresh and tasty and with great coffee. Both Letizia and Ruud are very friendly and helpful, the ideal hosts really. On our third visit with... More

We first met Letizia and Ruurd in 2010 when we took a cooking class. On that trip we weren't staying at Alla Madonna, but we always dreamed of coming back. We came back this year to celebrate our anniversary by going on Letizia's collaboration with Barbara D'Agatipi and WineLinkItaly for a "Pasta e Vino" tour of Umbria. The tour was... More

What a piece of heaven! Letizia and Ruard are wonderful hosts and we loved their fig-eating dog, Google, we chose to spend each afternoon relaxing on the terrace instead of touring the nearby towns because there is no place we would have rather been. We took the cooking class and it was my favorite day of our entire vacation! Letizia... More

Dear Stacie, thank you so much for your comments, I am delighted to know that you appreciated the family-style hospitality of our home, the marvelous views from the garden and the timeless ambiance of your room set in a former medieval watchtower. I wish I would have known you found our beds too firm. Italians believe that firm beds are... More

A really wonderful place although it is about 5km up a very pot-holed road and the first time that you make the drive you are quite pleased that you are in a rented car and not your own ! But you quickly get used to it and once there, the place and the people are a delight. Beautiful views across... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our home, a renovated farmhouse, is a small eco-friendly B&B near Assisi, in Umbria. The centuries-old stone house overlooks the beautiful town of Assisi. All rooms have a magnificent view of Assisi's world famous basilica, dedicated to St. Francis and housing some of Italy's most important art treasures. Our agriturismo is a quiet oasis both day and night, an ideal spot to unwind. You will awake every morning to the sights of the rolling Umbrian hills and the medieval town of Assisi perched on the Subasio mountain. You can linger for hours watching the sheep graze in the fields, sunbathe on the terracotta-paved terrace or sip a glass of wine under the grapevine arbor. If, on the other hand, you can tear yourself away from the garden and its panorama, our bed and breakfast is conveniently located to explore Umbria's beautiful medieval hill towns. Assisi, Gubbio, Todi, Orvieto, Spoleto and Perugia, as well as Tuscany's splendid Renaissance city Siena, Cortona and the Chianti wine region are all within about an hour’s drive. If you enjoy walking, the Subasio natural park and the Franciscan Path of Peace and woodllands are only minutes away. ... more   less
