This hotel ended up being the highlight of our trip. We only stayed there one night, and I wish we could have stayed longer. I knew ahead that it was a converted monastery, so I was not surprised at the "modest" room accomodations. The staff was wonderful and the food was great. When going with a tour, I have found... more

In mid-March 2009 my husband & I left out of California for a two week Globus tour of Italy. On the 12th night of our bus tour while in Venice my husband had been experiencing several days of increasing tooth & facial pain with headaches. The following morning we were scheduled to arive in Assisi & stay overnight at Hotel... more

Assisi and San Francesco Hotel were another highlight on our Globus tour. We loved the village with its shops and cafes. The village is nestled on a hill top overlooking Umbria. Just gorgeous. The Hotel was all we needed for an overnight stop. We were 3 ladies travelling and they kindly gave us two rooms for the night which was... more

Assisi is a special place, and staying at this hotel made it a magical experience. We had a room on the top floor, one window facing right out onto the Basilica, the other over the valley below Assisi. Seeing the Basilica at all times of day framed in our window, with just a hillside behind, was a wonderful sight. The... more

Stayed at this dump as part of a Globus tour. Three of 7 hotels were so bad that we got almost $1000 back from Globus - and this was the worst. My wife and I have traveled a lot and this place was the the worst - we've had better in third world countries. The A/C was not turned on... more

The breakfast and dinner were excellent. The room was tiny, dirty and cold. The thermostat was broken. It was raining, and we were chilled to the bone. We could not get warm. I do not mind spartan, or small. I just want clean. This place was filthy. The shower head ws broken and could not be adjusted up. I kept... more

I find it very helpful that people post a review because we help each other find a hotel that suits us. I went to Rome for the canonization of the foundress of my school. I wanted to make a pilgrimage to Assisi and stayed for three nights at the San Francesco. It is ideally located with the basilica right next... more

To judge a review, know the reviewer. Single, a man, educated, bourgeois, speaking only a little Italian, I regard North Carolina my home, the South my nation. I travel Nov-March (the heat and mob of the remaining year to be found with less expense and more pleasure in Buxton, NC). I attempt a gracious, congenial, soft-spoken, un-pushy, un-tacky mien –... more

This hotel is a little Spartan. The rooms were simple, the tv did not work. However, the location was excellent. We found the town of Assisi to be to homely and not as touristy as other places- therefore, we enjoyed ourselves and were more relaxed- didn't have to worry about getting hassled by gypsies or street merchants. more

We found the Hotel San Francesco to be a very enjoyable experience. The location is superb overlooking the cathedral and the rooms were spotless if a little “basic”. (Note: we were told that the hotel had been converted from a monastery). The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. As another reviewer has noted, the view from the 4th floor terrace... more
