The castle is, unquestionably, in a spectacular location and the rooms are acceptable (although the plastic insert shower stall was unfortunate). We spent a couple of nights at Castello di Ripa d'Orcia on our honeymoon. It provided us with a central location to explore Montepulciano, Montalcino and even Cortona! My family just returned from Ripa D'Orcia and we cannot disagree more with the criticism from a few reviewers. The location is stunning, the castle is well-maintained, and the owners were extremely hospitable. If you're looking for Disneyland, go elsewhere. If you want to stay in a unique and very special place, stay here. more

We just got back from staying at this castle and I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. The setting was gorgeous but the owners were obviously disdainful of their guests.
