Simply amazing! Still talk about how great it was 2 years after we stayed there. Most definitely the highlight of our week long trip to Italy. I loved everything about it. I thought the Food was terrific and felt like I was eating like an Italian and not being served food produced for the tourist. If you want a hotel... more

If you read back through the various reviews of this 'hotel' you will see many negative comments - all of which to my experience are still true. Let's get the positives out of the way - this is a lovely medieval castle in a very remote and picturesque setting with peaceful views all around. It's setting while being a positive... more

The posted reviews cover it quite well. This is a very special place, but not for everyone. For ourselves, though, it was the highlight of our trip to Tuscany. It is in an isolated location and is surrounded by magnificent scenery. The opportunity to stay in an ancient castle was a great treat. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable,... more

We stayed several nights in the middle of May, and wish we had more time. Certainly a place we will return to. Our room was wonderful, clean, airy, wonderfully maintained. There's no television, no room phones, and it's at the end of a 5k dirt road, but those are not bad things, it's exactly what we were looking for, a... more

The castle is, unquestionably, in a spectacular location and the rooms are acceptable (although the plastic insert shower stall was unfortunate). We didn't mind the rules about registration times or the requirement that cars be parked, after unpacking, outside the gate. We did mind the terrible dinner they served - even modest restaurants in Tuscany provide high quality meals from... more

We just returned from our second stay at the castello after 7 years. It is a magical place. We spent 3 nights in an apartment with our 19-year-old daughter, who was sorry to leave. We used the castello as a base for day trips to Siena, Montepulciano, Orvieto, Civita, etc. Then we would retreat to the castello for a wonderful... more

We spent a couple of nights at Castello di Ripa d'Orcia on our honeymoon. It provided us with a central location to explore Montepulciano, Montalcino and even Cortona! The hotel, though, can be a destination itself. It is perched on a hill above the Orcia river and surrounded by forest and vineyards that can be explored on foot or bicycle.... more

My family just returned from Ripa D'Orcia and we cannot disagree more with the criticism from a few reviewers. The location is stunning, the castle is well-maintained, and the owners were extremely hospitable. If you're looking for Disneyland, go elsewhere. If you want to stay in a unique and very special place, stay here. more

We just got back from staying at this castle and I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. The setting was gorgeous but the owners were obviously disdainful of their guests. They went out of their way to make the environment inhospitable by posting a ridiculously long set of rules and by using the cheapest and ugliest of furniture... more

Skip David, the gondolier ride, and the ancient roman ruins. Leave the airport in Rome, proceed directly to the car rental and drive north along the historic road between Rome and France to the Castello and settle in for a week or more. There is no internet, no phone, and no TV. There are sweeping views of olive trees, vineyards... more
