Le Volpaie is located half way between San Gimignano and Volterra and close enough to Siena, which implies that you do need a car to move around. Parking is free. Hotel le Volpaie, a small, family run hotel is one of the best hotels I ever visited. It has everything a nice hotel should: excellent service, nice and comfortable rooms and a very good breakfast. more
