Hotel Universo is a gem in Lucca! My room was on the second floor overlooking the piazza. I completely enjoyed the sounds of life going on outside my window and frequently went out to join the crowd. The room was clean, up to date and very comfortable. The location is perfect, close to the train, shopping, museums and one of... More

This charming hotel has all ingredients for a nice week-end stay in beautiful Lucca. The hotel is in the center of the town, located 3 minutes away from Chiesa S. Giovanni, where the dialy "Puccini e la sua Lucca" concerts take place. Rooms looking to the Piazza del Giglio have a very nice view, but it gets noisy on the... More

Perfect location if you need to be by the train station with heavy luggage. Easy to drag the luggage from the station and they have an elevator. The staff are not very cheerful or helpful from check in through to every department, by the shape of the hotel you can see they too are in need of a renewal! The... More

Stayed 4 nights at Hotel Universo for a city break in Lucca. Location of hotel is perfect , inside the city walls and within easy reach of plenty of cafes, restaurants and all the sights. Universo is a classical Tuscan building. Bedroom was large with decent size bathroom with shower only but perfectly adequate for time we spent in there.... More

Classical old hotel, modernised but a little tired. Large comfortable bedrooms. Good breakfast, but breakfasting room a bit cramped. Lucca old town is quite small, taking only 15 minutes to walk across, so bus and train were both within easy reach. A good selection of restaurants within 5 minutes.

We stay only one night in Lucca, going from Bologna to Cinque Terre. The location is great inside the walled city and close to everything that matters in Lucca. That central location allowed us to enjoy that amazing city of Lucca during the short time we had available. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the breakfast excellent. The... More

Traveling by train from Florence Italy to Cinque Terre we spent one night at the Hotel Universo. What a gem! It is located near the train station but inside the walled city. You can walk where ever you would like to go. Enjoy! When we return to Italy we will enjoy Lucca and this hotel again.

This Hotel was close enough to the action in the town of Lucca, yet far enough from the shopping district to avoid congestion. It had a small breakfast room with limited choices in the morning, no restaurant on the premises. The weekend nightlife happened right under our front Room 56 window so it was a little noisy, but tolerable. Perfect... More

We stayed here hor 2 nights B&B in May this year. It is ideally situated within the walls of Lucca. Its location is such that it gives access to the train and bus area- Piazza Verdi. Close to the duomo and shopping area of Via Fillungo, you are within easy reach of good restaurants, too, along wth the main sites.... More

Room 60 - September 2014 - one night - $129 USD (made reservation ahead of time) Stepping into the three-star, 56 room Hotel Universo was like stepping into a small version of "The Grand Budapest Hotel" (the movie). It's charm lies in it's appreciation of the past. Front desk very helpful. (She recommended the restaurant Gastone for lunch--don't miss it--excellent!)... More
