We stayed in Lucca on a week trip from Rome. The train goes to Lucca avoiding the need for a car and is a perfect staging point to visit Pisa from and overall a more interesting than Pisa.Great restaurants and gelateria's , just walking around the city wall gives you the atmosphere of being in a medieval city which it... Great greeting by the staff here. We were given a separate room instead of a triple share as it was quiet. Restaurant recommendations were lovely for all 3 nights we stayed. Room was lovely and we had a great stay.

My girlfriend and I visited Lucca in December- the weather was pleasant and the crowds were not to be seen. The moment we walked into this warm and welcoming hotel, we both knew we had made the right choice in staying there...there is a reason this hotel has the reviews it does. It's absolutely wonderful. The host Mario, was above... More

The service and attention to detail at this hotel are the best I have ever experienced. Our group of four arrived very late to Lucca after an unfortunate break down and switch of cars. Alexander, on duty in the evening, parked our car, and then arranged for a restaurant to stay open later to accomodate us, all the while baking... More

Travelling on one's own enables one to be more discerning and able to pay more attention to detail. From the moment I arrived at the Alexander I was cosseted by Mario and his family. This is a professionally run small hotel with character, with delightful Italian furnishings. The hotel is, as previous reviewers have said, well situated for museums, churches,... More

What a wonderful hotel - a palazzo in the walled town of Lucca in Tuscany. The owner Marion and the staff are friendly, helpful and they love their hotel - it shows. Breakfast is excellent. Located in a quiet corner of the town near the Mansi Museum and a short walk from the bus station where the CAP bus from... More

Hotel Palazzo Alexander is set in an old building. the first two floors date back to 1024 per the owner. It is close to the city wall and Porto Donato is the entry. There is private parking within the walls in their own secured area. We parked outside the walls at Porto Donato and walked to the hotel. We then... More

I would recommend this hotel for it's personal attention, delightful hosts and comfortable, large rooms - and a delicious breakfast as well! We only stayed one night due to our travel schedule, but I would not hesitate to return to Lucca and stay at Palazzo Alexander as my #1 choice. Mario, the owner, has been 'in the business' for over... More

This is a very charming hotel. We have stayed at this hotel 3 times this year and it was consistingly excellent. The rooms were fantastic (one had angels painted on the ceiling). The breakfast was exquisite, including unusually crispy croissants. Parking very close to the hotel is provided. The landlord and the other staff including the nigth staff were very... More

If you are looking to stay in a glass-fronted, impersonal hotel, with identical rooms, then the Palazzo Alexander is not the hotel for you. On the other hand, if you would like to stay in an old building with character that has been beautifully restored, then look no further. As others have said, one of the key charms of this... More
