I love staying in this place. Hospitality: Francesca, the host, contacted me within a day after I made my booking. I requested for a quiet room and, while still available, Francesca upgraded me to a better apartment. When I asked her for directions in booking tickets with the Accademia Gallery, she offered to help make a phone booking for me... More

We stayed at this apartment for 4 days. it was a very spacious apartment with big rooms and with all the important facilities. The apartment is right opposite Academia museum and Duomo is hardly 7-8 min walk from the apartment. All the shops and restaurants are also 10 min walk away. The owner Francesca is an amazing person as she... More

We were in Italy for 4 weeks and this was the best place we stayed. Francesca (the owner) is wonderful and friendly and helpful. There was a minor problem with the AC and she fixed it immediately - at 10:30 at night. The location is RIGHT across the street from the Accademia (location of the "David") and a 5 minute... More

We stayed 6 days in Palazzo Alfani and we enjoyed every minute. We felt like we were staying at our parents' apartment because of the wonderful, caring service we got from the owner, Francesca. The apartment itself is a gem! Very comfortable, clean, beautiful, and in the best possible location. I wish we could stay longer. I wish we could... More

Amazing location right across from Accademia. 10 min walk to the Duomo. Wonderful service. The apartment was so quiet, overlooking a courtyard. It had a kitchen, etc. When we opened the door to the street, we were in the middle of Florence action.

My family and I enjoyed a 3 night stay at Palazzo Alfani and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Francesca, our host, was always available to provide information and to make sure all of our needs were being met. The location, directly across the street from the Statue of David, was a perfect home base for exploring Florence. I highly recommend Palazzo... More

My wife and I traveled to Florence in early April to "see the sights" and run in the Florence Half Marathon. We stayed for five glorious nights and had a wonderful time. The combination of the excitement and conviviality of the race with the general "buzz" and beauty of the old part of the city was simply fantastic. The Palazzo... More

This is a gem of a place from the accommodations, location, and hosts. The Alfani family were wonderful. Francesca was so helpful, responsive and just plain fun to talk with. As other guests have mentioned, Francesca feels like a wonderful friend you've known for awhile. The apartment was like a home away from home and so conveniently located to everything!... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
