Good place to stay for 2. Marble floors and almost sterile bathrooms are rather rare sight in hostels. Location, on one hand is a great advantage of this place- it's close to the center and main station; but on the other hand it's also Giglio's biggest weekness due to big traffic in the neighbourhood. When we arrived the guy was very nice, showed us our room. There is no elevator so prepare to carry your luggage upstairs. The rooms were very clean, and so was the shared bathroom. My mom and I stayed here together in the room overlooking the busy main street. The noise blocking windows do an excellant job (though you may wish to have ear plugs). This charming hostel is contained within a small area. There are about 4 rooms and 2 bathrooms which were cleaned regularly and thoroughly. The rooms are basic, but they are clean and reasonably priced. There are two bathrooms, adequate to share with other guests. You get what you pay for. Very basic, bare esentials. Cold water showers! Mini kitchen with cooking facilities/fridge inside a cupboard. Included breakfast is prepacked. The nice thing about this place is the location. It's right next to the train station. There isn't any 24 reception. And it's more of the basic hotel. Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
