My husband and I spent our last night of a three-month trip to Italy at the Hotel Firenze Capitale. The hotel is small (only seven rooms), absolutely beautiful, and the owners are very kind. We were treated so well and felt so at home that I was sorry to leave. The rooms are stunning, all beautifully painted and with lovely... More

The room was spacious and very clean. I loved the painting ceiling, it is beautifully decorated in the style of Florence. The location is perfect, it is within walking distance of the Duomo and all major sites. The managers Rita and Joseph made my stay enjoyable, feeling confortable and very secure throughout my stay as if I am home. The... More

We stayed here mid July and really enjoyed it. The staff were friendly with their greeting when we arrived and helped us with luggage. They made us feel very comfortable and were extremely approachable, they gave us good info about tourist spots and a map with locations; the only hotel to do this on our travels of Italy. The room... This is an excellent quality small hotel in a good location. It's a few minutes walk from the Accademia and not much further to the Duomo and the centre of town. Our standard room was of good size, very comfortable and well decorated. One little extra that we had never seen before was the motion-activated nightlight in the bathroom. Spotlessly... More

We have been fortunate enough to have traveled to some lovely places and stayed in some beautiful hotels but I have never felt the urge to write a review until now. The friendly members of staff who work here really take it upon themselves to go above and beyond any expectations you may have to make your stay enjoyable, stress... More

As other reviewers also mentioned very large room, spotlessly clean, with very good isolation, modern bathroom, good wifi, friendly staff. Easy walk to the duomo. Rooms look exactly as on website. Very good value for the money you pay - something not easy to find in Florence. I will definitely stay again.

the rooms were huge .. believe me if you have seen those rooms in European cities which end before they start, the rooms in this hotel are as big as three of those put together. the location is nice with few restaurants around, but the place is not highlighted by any board or identifier, the nameplate is small one and... Your first reaction to the hotel is going to be"Am i at the right place?" but wait till you get buzzed inside, take the tiny elevator to the 3rd floor, walk past the reception and straight into your room. It is a perfectly spacious, airy, comfortable and well equipped room with staff that make you feel at home. The croissants... More

Quite the little gem of a hotel. It's on the 3rd floor of a historical building - a former embassy. The lift to get there is for two people or one person and a suitcase. Kind of quaint. The person at the reception was quite nice and very helpful. The room was large with tall ceilings and painted frescoes. The... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
