Lets be honest about this place; it isn't a hotel... rooms in the main castello are mostly apartments (alebit iwth plenty of quirky charm) and the remainder are chalet style houses. There is a restaurant but basically it is self-catering....in fact it is "self" everything...our room/chalet wasn't cleaned at all over the 3 days we stayed...our sheets weren't changed...our "kitchen"... more

We stayed at the Castello on a deal from Travelzoo. We dont normally go for this sort of 'bargain' but it seemed almost too good to be true. I read the reviews on Tripadvisor so I felt like I had a pretty good sense of what we were getting into. The location is fantastic. The place itself is really spectacular... more

We had a wonderful time here and the hotel itself was beautiful and peaceful. We often commented that we never heard a sound that wasn't a morning bird chirping and only when the terrace door was open! The setting is bucolic and the Castle is lovely with dark wood beams and stone steps. It is up a small gravel walk,... more

The castle itself is beautiful; the views breathtaking and everything we dreamed the hillsides of Tuscany would be. However, this is not a hotel. There are no amenities. We stayed for seven nights, my mom and I, and not once was the room cleaned. They charge you a cleaning fee per night, which come to find out is only for... more

LOVED! We only stayed here for 3 days but wished we had went a full week. The castle is located 30ish minutes outside of Florence. We had great directions and had no problem with a rental car find the castle. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The keeper even showed us the old wine celler and rooms under the castle... more

Having stayed here for the first time 5 years ago, we have been hooked ever since. For us, this place is pure paradise. We've stayed in La Galeria & La Grotta both were stunning. The painted ceilings, the terraces, views, lemon grove, outdoor pool, simple but superb restaurant & all within minutes drive of Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Sienna & the... more

Our first experience with a Tuscan villa. We were pleased with our accommodation, a large two-bedroom apartment at the top of the castle with amazing views of the surrounding countryside. The rooms were very clean, simple and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was basic, with a gas-bottled stove, no electrics, no dishwashing machine, and no toaster. One thing that... more

An old castle, transformed over the centuries with authentic features set in the nicest landscape, surrounded by a well kept, enchanting big italian garden - what more to be expected? We can see an old house needs constant care because we have a big old house -not as big and as old as Montegufoni, but still old and big, and... more

We stayed 7 nights at this Castle in April and loved every minute of it. Wonderfully restored and kept it had a great atmosphere. We heard that some of the apartments can be dark so if you want a brighter one ours, number 23 was one of those with morning and afternoon sun. The pool was immaculate and the whole... more

My husband and I and another couple just returned from a great Italian vacation. We spent 6 nights at Castello di Montegufoni. It was wonderful. We stayed in La Grotta, a two bedroom, two bath villa. The apartment is huge, the rooms very nice with beautiful frescos. La Grotta is perfect for two couples. The castle itself is amazing, Letizia... more
