This is a hostel. That means the bathroom and shower are shared. But that is OK, because it's very rare when they are occupied. Internet is great! Giovanni (the current host) is a great host. Since I can guess that this was a bigger apartment converted into a hostel, the kitchen is no bigger then an apartment kitchen - share... More

Great value place & everything you need in your room. Clean, plenty of lights, cotton sheets & excellent air con. It is slightly outside the old centre but still really well-located, perhaps 10 min to Duomo & a bit closer to train and bus station. Local square is a lively spot in evenings. it's only shortcoming is a shared bathroom,... More

Well we stayed in Florence for only one night. This guest house is very cozy and clean. What I loved about the room is it's well maintained, and walking distance from everywhere. Yet I hoped for a mini fridge at the hotel. And never minded the shred bathroom as its for 4 people maximum. P.S we were traveling with a... More

Franz House is an excellent guest house if you want to explore Florence. It is close to centre next to the river, 10 minutes walk from Firenze Santa Maria Novella station and 10 minutes walk to the Duomo and the rest of the main attractions. The rooms are clean, spacious and functional and ours came with Aircon included. Giovanni, the proprietor... More

Franz House was easy to find from the train station and in a fantastic area! We were within walking distance of the Duomo and right next to the river which offered amazing views. What we loved the most is that once the windows were closed, all the noise of the city disappeared, the A/C kept us comfortable, and we slept... More

Franz House was on a floor of a lovely building, complete with a classic, slow-moving Italian elevator. The room we stayed in was beautiful with high ceilings and a huge window looking out onto the street and the main river in Florence. It was in a great location that was just a walk away from the majority of the sights... More

Hotel Franz is very conveniently located and is actually only 6 rooms 2 stories up in a renaissance house built for Amerigo Vespucci's family (how cool is that!). Giovanni was so helpful orienting us to the must see sights of the city and marking them on a map for us. We'd come prepared about what we wanted to see, but... More

I stayed with Giovanni Bacci at his B&B from 26-29 Dec 2013, 3 nights, total EUR160 incl BF (Booking.com) with my own bathroom. I enjoyed my stay considering I was on a super tight budget and wanted the least expensive accomm possible in the CENTRE of the city. If you come with an open mind and the right expectations, you... The hotel is just as the pictures, not fancy. It's in the best place in Firenze in just a few minutes walk from interesting place! Giovani was pretty atencious gave us a map with all coordinates so we won't miss anything, and breakfast was wonderful, with home made pancakes and eggs!

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
